Default Is this p72 ecu toast?

obd1 5spd p72 ecu

I got this in today from a member on this board and decided to inspect the circuit board and I find this:

I am not an ecu guru like some of you, but I'm guessing this is near the fuel pump portion of the board. Do any of you guys know what this component is (transistor ?) and if this ecu is toast? My guess is that it's blown and toasted.

Thanks.

Its a transistor, and happens when you plug the purge solenoid into the IAT plug or vice versa. The ecu is still ok to use. I have had a few have this problem, you can either desolder that part and put in a new one ( hopefully the board isn't burnt to hell underneath), which it usually is. But if it is good enough, you can just jump the traces with a few strands of wire.

The component looks toast... Looks to be cracked.

The board will more than likely be repairable. Im surprised by how many people throw out boards that can easily be repaired.

Granted, some other components may have experienced failure from a direct result of that one failing. (im not a honda circut board master)

<----former circuit board tech for Tyco PCB's, it looks fine. (the board. Not the component)

There is the back of the board. Do you know where I can get this transistor from and the specs of the actual transistor I need?

I really appreciate the help

You can get it from a spare board. I could even send you one if you need.

Im sure 93turbo will know...

The board looks to be pretty stressed at that point. Look for seperation of the laminant at that point. If it looks like its "peeling apart" layer at a time, you might wanna fix it with some soldermask.

Agreed. You are gonna want to patch that board up a bit on the back side. That board is actually in good shape compared to some I have seen.

Also Check the part number. I would imagine they are the same transistor. But it might be at a different spot in the board.
