91 honda accord fuel tank leak
my accord is leaking gas from the drain plug/screw on the gas tank. i bought a new aluminum washer but it still leaks. did i install the washer incorrectly? is there one way the washer is supposed to be installed?
what made the original washer wear out in the first place? what were the accord engineers thinking in the first place to design such a corny idea like this? does anyone have a suggestion?

I was under the impression Honda doesn't incorporate a drain for the Tank, and Honda appears to agree with me.

I don't see any screws/washers called out for a drain plug.
Perhaps something a previous hack installed to avoid pulling the tank.

i dont know the history but it is factory made. you can see it described on autozone site: https://www.autozone.com/servl...4.jsp
You're absolutely correct. I didn't notice and frankly never had reason to use it.
I'm curious as to why the aluminum washer failed to seal....
I believe the washer can be installed in either configuration. You may be dealing with some corrosion issues on the sealing surfaces. I'd re-check the sealing surface of both the tank and bolt face flank.

Did you use a new washer? If you didn't you would have to line it up exactly like it was before. When you install a crush washer it makes creases in it. Just like the washer on the oil pan, you need to use a new one each time.

I'm handicaped by having a Transmission Jack, I've never had to drain a tank (except when I had to have it steam cleaned) -- so I always flushed it upside down anyway.

when i installed the new washer i had it in one position. it leaked. then i turned it around but this time it seeped. my thinking is that you may be right. the intial install created a new form preventing a good seal. my question is what is honda bond?
Follow the suggestions offered by these guys ,, also, besides a new washer, put some teflon tape on the plug threads see if that helps..
