harbour frieght wire colors
i just bought a chicago electric dual mig and i dont know what the colors of the ires are. I have a green, white and black. Isthe black the ground?
No. If it is 110 volt.
Green is the safety ground. That is the long round prong in the plug. Green will be connected to the chassis of your welder.
Black is line power (117 Volt AC). The source, supply, feed, or "hot" lead. That would be the brass colored prong or screw in the plug.
White is power return (117 Volt AC). The return or "ground" lead. That would be the silver colored prong or screw in the plug. This is at "ground" potential.
If your house is wired correctly. The white and green are tied together ONLY in your breaker box, where it is connected to the power return to your utility, and tied to the water pipe or the 8 ft ground rod into your soil. Thus both are at or near ground. By the green not carrying return power, you tool chassis is more near actual "ground", by not having a voltage drop in the conductor.
If your welder is 220 volt, let us know.
