Default b18a1 boost project

Need some help
What turboes are you guys using for my set-up its going in a crx.

HEAD
Ferrera valves, Ferrera seals, Crower dual valve springs w/t-retainers, Crower turbo cams, Blox intake manifold, and arp head bolts.
BLOCK
b18a1 81mm je pistons 9.2:1 w/je rings, ls rods machined w/arp bolts, ls crank micro polished, type-r water and oil pump, and acl race bearings.

Im only looking for around 250-300 whp range. What size turbo should i use? i have a pretty good idea on the rest of the turbo kit.

Nice, did you put it together your self? how hard was it? i am about to build a ls now for a ls turbo. ANyway about the turbo I will be running a t3/60-1 70ar 63trim turbo on my gsr. THe guys at phoenixturbo helped me pick it out and it looks real sick. I will tkae pix this weekend. I will compare to the t3/t4 my friend has. They said I should be good for 330 at 10psi on my gsr.

Too much build, not enough boost.

you think? i just want it to last me. i could always put it in a coupe or teg and push 15psi maybe hit 350-400 zone. But like i said i want it to last me. 250 horse in something that could handle 350-400 will last a long time. plus if i ever get traction i could always boost it up a bit. 18 psi on the highway or something. i just dont want to blow something im puting 2500 into.

That way of thinking is incorrect. Power is only 20% of engine damage according to Maximum Boost Something that will hold 400HP will last just as long as if it were making 250HP as long as the tune are equally well done. Detonation at 250hp will blow up a motor made for 400hp so it really is not a question of power, but instead the tune. So far your weakes part in the system will be the rods and head flow so I'd aim for 350-400whp and call it a day. Use an EBC and control the boost so DD is lower boost and when you really want to rip it, hit a button and you're off. GL, looks like a good build

So how much power do you guys think i should shoot for in my crx? Isn't 400 a little excessive for a crx?

No man it's not. With that much of a build you should run 15psi on 91 (or 93) octane.
What type of ECU are you running?
Make sure you get it tuned right.

I don't know why you would sick so much money into the head, then skimp out and put stock rods back in that motor.

You are 100% sure those are the intakes on the back? Because it reallly looks differently from this picture.

400 is a little excessive for stock rods in my opinion.

Im pretty positive that theyre backwards man. If you look at the space between the reliefs on the "exhaust" side youll see that theyre alot closer than the "intake" side. Measure the reliefs on both sides and post them up...then ill be able to tell you if theyre really backwards or if its an optical illusion.

BTW-Im not trying to bust your *****. Im trying to help save you from a blown motor and most likely a ruined head. I know how it feels to blow a motor because of a little expletive up. Good luck man

I'm about 100% sure they are in wrong. You don't want to damage that nice valve-train now do you? Go ahead and slap in a set of rods in there while you are changing the pistons around.

I'm also not trying to bust your *****... just trying to help out.

if you wanted to run that amount of boost then you could have just did that on a stock motor and it would have lasted you a long time as long as you didnt drive it like a jackass.

if your actually gonna build it put some boost to that bitch.

turbo question: t3/t04e

Third build, huh? Did you put the pistons in backwards in those two also?
The bigger reliefs are for the LARGER intake valves.
Also, I hope those rod caps are already broken loose. Most builders put the crank in before the pistons/rods.

To answer your question I'd get a T3/T04E 57 trim 0.63 a/r, 'cause I have that, and I like it except for the leak

Nice tub of vaseline by the way
