I heard that Honda's are picky with their plugs, what's the best plugs to use with a 99 Accord LX (4Cy)?

 

NGK, don't know the exact number for your engine. That's oem plugs.

 

like BLK siad use nothing but NGK ... PFR6F-11

 

i have bosch...i haven't had any problems with them yet...should i swap them for NGKs?

If you have a good 24hr towing service they are great.

NGK or Denso plugs only!

don't stick those in your honda

 

When I had my 91 accord SE, always used "platinum 4 Bosch" and never had a problem.
With my 97 accord EX, have not experienced anything strange either (I have msd ignition with platinum 4 spark plugs).

Why are some of you saying the bosch isn't good?

 

Bosch are great plugs for german cars, but Honda designed their engines to run on NGK or Denso plugs.

 

i have a 96 accord that i bought used a couple months ago and someone gave me some ngk iridiums. someone else told me tho that the oem plugs were the ones to stick with tho. do you guys recommend puttin in the iridiums anyway? and will it make a difference at all?

 

I had problems with Bosch plugs in my H22, it kept metling one of them. I swapped in NGK, then Denso's, and never had a problem.

 

i used to have bosch 4P, then when i changed them to denso, i lost alot of response time, but my idle was smoother, but they worked decent on my accord.
When I change them again im going back to bosch.

I care less what honda says to put in my car. If it runs, I like it,and ill use it.

 

If you love your engine then don’t use anything other than plugs from Honda. I use to have set of Iridium, but Iridium can affect performance plus kill my Cat, due to its (plugs) gap, we can’t gap them because if you break the point in the middle, it might fall in to the piston chamber and you are dead in the water.

So I got a new NGK set from the dealer cost me 77.00 CDN, car runs silky smooth

Once you get them, get a filler gauge and check the gap, if it’s incorrect? Correct them

Here is the info:
98-99 models:
Electrode Gap
Standard (New): 1.0-1.1 mm (0.039 – 0.043 in.)

Spark Plugs: NGK: ZFR5F-11 or DENSO: KJ16CR-11

Apply a small quantity of anti-seize compound to the plug threads, and screw the plugs into the cylinder head finger-tight. Torque them to 18 N-m (1.8 kgf-m, 13 lbf-ft)

 

I spent a deal of cash buying some denso iridiums for my 96 ex accord and i noticed absolutely zero difference in anything. I say for 50 dollars for a set of denso iridiums i can keep fresh NGKs in there more often for the same affect. I have since noticed that the NGKs are your best bet for the money.

couple of things, most honda will loose some power running those plug.

the 4 tipped plugs are not gapped

and the thing about electricity, they are just as lazy as most mens, they will go the shortest path, still don't get it?

for example: you are the "spark" from the wires, you are trying to go over the other side of the town, it doesn't matter you get a map with 26 route, you are going to drive on the shortest route.

so what does it means when it comes to sparkplugs?

it doesn't matter you have four or 26 tips, the spark will only going to go/use/run using one tip and one tip only

Copper NGK/denso is more than enough plugs for accord, i use those even when i am boosting. Copper is cheaper, so they need to be replace sooner than platnum plugs.

performance wise, it will not do a thing

Some people complaints about loss of gas mileage when running those iridiums plugs, i never have a set so i can't ensure you on that.

if they are new, sell them. for 60 bucks, you can have 20 copper plugs.

the only thing they are good is that they last alot longer

 

spark plugs are good for at least 50,000 miles. Sounds like you guys change plugs more often than oil.

i guess you dont run copper plugs, those certainly dont last that long.

 

just get stock plugs i never had a problem with them

 

platinum plugs just lasts longer but worse on performance vs. copper plugs.

it's an incredible ordeal to change all 8 plugs in my LS1 Trans Am, but in a 4-banger Honda, it's so easy. i don't mind spend $4 a year changing them.

 

I tried a set of split fire plugs once, ran great, for about 2 weeks, then ran like crap, replaced with a set of ngk platinum, over 5 yrs ago, i pulled them out and they looked great, I still replaced them, car has 160,000 + and going strong.

 

Bosch is a great brand of plug,but I'm sure many other Honda owners would agree that keeping a factory brand plug is the best move. I've used denso and ngk in all my hondas and never had a problem. Though the denso doesn't last as long as the ngk in terms of mileage and longevity,it does have way better performance features.
