primer question...is this true.
after body work is complete, i was planning on priming my car and leaving it for a while till i can afford paint. dad asked a guy at work who paints the **** they make john deer forestry equipment, boeing aircraft etc... and the guy said priming your car and leaving it is a big mistake. the primer protects, but also keeps the moisture and rots the car faster... told him it was bullshit. am i wrong? lol i think i just said that cuz its not wut i wanted ot hear. any damage tot he body ever some from priming and leaving for say.... 3-5 months?
I think the guy is some what true because regular paint has protective properties in it that primer doesnt. Primer is just mainly to help the paint stick to the surface material. I could be wrong also though.
I bought my car primered, and more than a year later I can say that my body is eating **** right now. I have been driving the car for that time, so I don't know if yours would be alright if you are leaving it or not.
hmmm thanks then guys...i guess it did snap cuz its not what i wanted to hear lol... think i'll wet sand it can paint DIY. got a compressor and spray gun. a gallon of is enough right? going gunmetal...black hood, black spoiler, and black rims.
leaving your car in primer for 2 weeks or so will be good for it because it will give the body work and primer time to sink in and will sand flatter and look better after its painted, you won't end up with as many sand scratches from your body work when its done, well you should'nt have any but ya know. anything more than that is a no no.

Yeah I think that guy speaks the truth. Primer is quite porous and i could see how it would hold moisture and promote rust. Primer is there to provide a base coat for paint and is by no means a protection from the elements. I have seen many f*&ed up cars that drove around with just primer for way too long. If you don't have the money to paint it, just leave whatever crap paint you have on there, as it will probably be better than leaving primer on there.
Yes that is true..Primer absorbs moisture like crazy..Thats why most people sand there stock paint then primer it,,and the stock paint will act as a sealer..also on my car at the moment it is primer black,,but I have the whole entire exterior sprayed with por-15 expoxy sealer,,then have the flat black over that..
Im not a bodyman though..

well until i cant paint the car im gonna use a quick fix to make it a bit more presentable. doing simple body work with some spot filler, sand it down, prime it. and rattle can paint over the primer. just for a temp fix till i can properly paint it. it will only cost like 25 bucks for this to be done so it'll be fine till summer comes around. thanks for your info tho. helped me no to totally expletive up my body lol
