Default Changing Valve Cover gasket...

Hi guys,
I'm gonna be changing out the this and the O rings around the spark plugs in the near future on a 5th gen 2.2L Accord. Is there anything I should be extra careful with or sensitive to or is it just a quick change out like any other? Done this on Subarus in the past, but never on a Honda.

Thanks a lot.

Jared

do anything but don't tight valve cover bolts too tight, because they brake or screwup thread etc.

well you know that you will need to do a valve adjustment after replacing the lower seals, because you must take off the rocker arm assembly.

its also good idea to have someone hold down the passenger side of the cam so it doesnt pop out of place...or just loosing the timing belt to relieve pressure on that side

its a really easy thing to do, just time consuming.

Actually if your talking about the spark plug tube seals all you have to do is remove the cover and replace the seals. Nothing special to do just be careful not to over tighten the valve cover bolts.

I just did this same thing earlier this week and there are a few things you wanna make sure about.
1. Get comfy when removing the old gasket, it is going to take quite a while to scrape the old gasket out.
2. It sounds kind of barbaric but when you're removing the seals around the spark plugs they are not going to want to come out so you might have get behind the edges with a small flathead and a hammer.

This all sounds like it should be easier than this but just you wait. I expected it to be no prob but i think the idiot before me used adhesive on half of the valve cover gasket before he realized he shouldnt have... or SHE shouldnt have, i dunno.

yeah, I think someone did something they shouldn't have. There should only be some liquid gasket (Honda Bond) in the corners where the gasket goes over the camshaft. Scrape that little bit off and make sure you use some new liquid gasket in those four spots. You should have to be scraping gasket material off from all around the mating surface of the head and valve cover.

The upper spark plug tube seals may be a bit hard to get out and the new ones back in. Once the old ones are out, use a little bit of oil or something to lube the sides of the new seals, this will help them go in.

Tighten the valve cover bolts to 7 lb/ft.

Well theres a lower set, and a upper set. The upperset you can replace just by taking off the valve cover, the lower set is when you have to start taking other things apart to get to them. I guess the leaks are usualy from the lower seals because they are under preassure from the oil. I have to do this soon so i've been trying to read up on it...

Really? It seems like most people that have posted up with oil in the spark plug tube end up replacing the upper tube seals and that has solved the problem.

But if your looking for a write-up on the lower seals, I believe someone did a write-up on CB7Tuner on how to replace them.

Edit:
Here is a link to that write-up. It may not be 100% the same as your motor but it gives you a good idea of whats involved.

Could very well be, but someone told me the lower ones were underpressure so they were more likely to fail...and it made some sense so thats just what I thought...
