how good is stock type r lsd?
It sucks.
...but if you can get one for cheap, it beats not having one. Generally, the clutch-type LSDs are thought more of than the gear-type LSDs (like the ITR one).

Get those aftermarket 2 way LSD, it is better than the 1.5 way LSD that the R has (if i am not mistaken). Of course, it always depends on your application.
And I don't think I need to tell you 1.5 way LSD is better than nothing?!

What kinda lsd is better for drag racing?
BTW
1 way: lsd effect only on acceleration
1.5 way: lsd effect on acceleration and partially on braking
2 way: lsd effect on both acceleration and braking

I thought stock itr lsd is 1 way... It's ok for cheap, but if I had the $ I'd get ATS 1.5 way.....

The stock Type R LSD is a great unit considering it's from the factory.
But, when compared to a high performance 1.5 LSD such as Spoon, ATS, Kaaz, Quaife the stock LSD just sucks...
Another thing to consider though is that the stock LSD is low/no maintenance, whereas a performance 1.5 LSD is very high maintenance ($$$)
If your budget is tight, stick with the stock R LSD.

For straight line you better spend the money elsewhere.
LSD is not design for drag and it will never be.
Spend the same amount of money on drag slick you will get better result.

yeah and blow your dog leg diff straight out the case...
I broke my Stock diff on 17s at the track.. To much traction on a dog leg is a bad thing!
I have a type R LSD and i love it.. When i bought it Quaifes were 1400 dollars.. now they are half that.. I would rather have a Quaife for the simple fact of the life time warranty.. If you blow up a Quaife you get a new one!

I would say at least 300 whp..
I know a guy with a stock diff. dog leg style thats at 280 and he launches like a donkey on slicks. and i know that the ITR LSD is WAY stronger than a Stock dog leg..

yup, supposedly 300whp is the limit of the stock itr lsd...

It's good for a stock piece though.
1way/1.5way/2way engagement only applies to clutch LSD's because of their cam lock plates.
2way diffs should only be used by experienced drivers!
Clutch LSD's rebuilds do not need tgo be performed as ofetn as many people seem to think. I ran 1.5way Mugen extremely hard for two years and when I pulled it apart for a disc upgrade and intial torque setting booost up the plates still had a lot of life left in them.
Once you go over the 300whp mark you might as well drive around with dynomite in your tranny.

I have a stock GS-R. How hard is a LSD install. How much money would I be looking to spend on an upgrade like this? I think that a 1 way LSD would be perfect for me. Occasional canyon carving, nothing extreme (no track racing). Any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations from someone that has done this upgrade?
EDIT: Plus, should I wait until I need to change the clutch on my car (which would probably be awhile), so that I can do a clutch/LSD upgrade at the same time?

How much can you get the Type R LSD for? And is there anywhere to get it besides an Acura dealer? I had heard somewhere that you have to buy the whole Type R differential to get the LSD. Is that true? I would like to put one in my tranny in a couple of months.
