98 accord intake question?
ok well my mom is a typical girl and a fool when it comes to cars. my car has stalled about 3 times in the past month and its an automatic so my mom got worried about the engine. and was like im taking it to honda. so anyways she goes to honda today and the guy tells her that something is clogging the intake and not allowing the engine to "breathe" properly. now i know nothing about cars besides a little car audio and im just baffled at the cost of this. they said 448.50 and that was after a "10%" discount the guy offered my mom. granted my intake isnt oem its an injen short ram intake, but does that price not seem just crazy? and do any of you guys know at all what could be wrong with my car becuase my mom cant explain it for **** and i wasnt there when she went to the dealers.
The filter probably just needs cleaned. Even if you need a new cone filter it will be $40 at most. All you need to install it is a screwdriver, so be sure to do it yourself.
it was already taking to honda and my mom already paid the 448.50 like i told her when she told me what was wrong i called her a moron and ya shes my mom and i love her but like u said i could fix that for 40 bux. 450 is crazy, and honda said they needed to keep my car for 2 days to do it. so now im kinda wierded out.
What does the invoice say was done to the car? I would talk to the technician that worked on the car to see exactly what was done. You need to ask questions so you will not get ripped off. He might have cleaned the intake manifold with requires taking the manifold completely off. (With can cost some money.) But if I was you I would find out exact what was done to your car!
ya thats what my mom said it was in the intake manifold and that was what was clogged. im getting my car back tomorrow first thing in the am so ill deff check the invoice and post up exactly what was done so u guys can tell me if i was ripped off or not becuase i seriously felt my mom got jerked around with.

It has nothing to do with your aftermarket intake. The tech was talking about part of the engine. Probably the EGR ports were clogged. AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T EVER CALL YOUR MOTHER A FOOL, OR A MORON.
Yep that was what I was going to say but you guys beat me to it. I thought it was either getting a stock intake system put back on but didn't know how much they run but thought it was more likely to be actually the intake manifold not the short ram part of it.
car has 97k miles on it, and this is really strange... they replaced the egr valve and it wound up being 350 with a full diagnostic test, anyways i go in my car last night to listen to my system and i always make sure the car is running when i do that and well my engine died cuz of the battery and i just replaced the battery 3 weeks ago, the car also says it needs oil and i just had that changed too so this is tripping me out any ideas?
i dont know, i havent tried... the car went back to honda this morning and im hoping they will fix this for free considering it never did this before they touched the car. what happens is ill be sitting there with the car running in park so i can listen to music without the battery dying... i only do this becuase i dont have my liscense yet (getting it in a week) and my sound system in my car is much better then the one i have in my room. but well the engine just stops and i start to hear the noise the car makes when the key is in and the car isnt on as well as all the dash board lites turn on on the car.
the car starts every time, no issue... it runs for anywhere between 10-30 min then the engine dies. and if i want it to start again after it dies i have to take the key out and then restart it.
is your last name Fong? If not you should contact your dealer to have them change the information in the Honda database.
Your ignition recalls have been done but your EGR one is still open. I assume your moms car had too many miles on it to have it covered by the warranty (i would still push for it).
I know you've already described it but I just want to be sure the story is right.
Please post exacting details of what happens when it dies.

ya my last name is not fong, that must have been the first owner... the egr valve was replaced and paid for 3 days ago thats what they replaced. as for what happens when the engine dies is i will put the key in start the car normally like ive done a million times before, i keep the car in park just running, then anywhere from 10-30 min into it the perr of the engine stops, the rpms go down to 0 (when the car is in park and running they r at about 600) all the dash board lites come on like the check engine sign, battery, oil ect... and the the key noise (the little beep) that when u have the key in and the car isnt running starts going on. then if i take the key out and restart the car it will do the same thing 10-30 min later. it never did this before the egr valve was replaced.
i just found the invoice from honda, they said check engine light stays on has stalled a couple of times, diagnosed code3 p0401, remove upper intake to clean ports and replace egr valve. the the parts it charged me for was a kit egr pipe. thanks agian for all the help.

When the car is driven does it seem like it has plenty of power? If it runs good (except for the stalling problem) I say it's the electrical side of the ignition switch. You can fix that yourself
when ive driven it its been fine. i dont gun it tho because my mom has to drive with me at this time... shes driven it a 2 times and had it stall and the time it stalls is when the car is gunned passed 70 and that only happened 2 times other times the car has been past 70 has been fine.
there was a recall on the ignition switch on 1998-2002 accords...check it before you or your mom dies.... search in the forum archives.. you can literally die from this... mine, i would be going on highways doing 70 or 80 and then, all of a sudden without any warning the engine would completely stop, with rpm going down immediately to 0... extremely dangerous i must say... they had a recall...i wonder if you have gotten it fixed by now though
