Me + Stupidity = Wrecked car. Happened wednesday night. I was going way too fast trying to get home. Saw a branch in the road and flinched. Right tire dropped off the shoulder, and I panicked. Over corrected bringing it back onto the road and went into a spin. Managed to stay on the road until i lost most of my speed. But yeah... Walked away without a single scratch. I checked all the tires to make sure they were good and not obstructed, cranked her back up, and drove home. Of course I've been sore as hell the past 5 days. Went to the ER thursday morning where they knocked me out to give me fluids and pain treatments, settle my stomach, and let me rest. Spent thursday and half of friday unconcious. I'm just getting able again to eat solid foods and keep them down. Still don't have my appetite back. Couldn't be more miserable.

I don't remember hitting anything honestly. I remember pulling it back on the road and then skidding sideways, spinning once, almost correcting it, then skidding sideways the other way, then I was rolling backwards still standing on the brakes. When I was going backwards, i just relaxed and put my body as flat as i could against the seat waiting for an impact that never seemed to happen. When I stopped, I kind of snapped out of it, opened the door and got out, expecting just a scratch.

When the police arrived they just made sure i was alright, checked my insurance, and wanted to run my plate. I pointed to the back of the car and told her it was on the bumper, and she said that she had passed my bumper hanging in a tree 100 feet up the road.

My drivers side window was down, and though my mirror was knocked off, and even the vent visor was in pieces, i don't remember anything hitting me. I was covered in dirt and leaves though, and I didn't notice that my rear window was missing until I got home.

Yep, insurance is gonna take care of it. The adjuster hasn't seen it yet, but the crappy wholesale value they would give me won't even replace the car. Looks like I'm gonna have to either pressure them to fix it, or total it and buy the car back, and then either strip it and put it on another 6th gen coupe, or part it out and change cars. I'd hate to leave the accord family, but I am keeping an open mind for other models as well.

This may be the time to step it up. I've got $7,000 to spend now, plus what ever insurance gives me, and I'm leaving for UAE/Iraq in a month, and should return from there in sept/oct. with another $12-14,000 to spend. So if I do wait, I could have $20-25K cash to play with.

I'd like to step it up to something nicer and faster, but I dont' feel like I'm finished with the 6th gen. Any inputs?? I could get an 01-02 Coupe with low miles, transfer all my parts and still have money to play with.

Sorry to hear about your car, but I'm glad you're doing okay.

If the car is still at your place and if you still have the OEM stuff, I'd start swapping stuff now (or least talk a friend into doing it until you feel you have the energy). Nearly everything you put into that car is salvagable, by the looks of it at least.

If you pick up another 6th gen, you can still use the parts. If you decide to go with a different car, you can always sell the parts to help recover your losses.

Not a single other person was around. I'm glad it was that way. I did find a couple good sized trees laying over, and looking at the car, i obviously hit one really good. I just don't remember any impacts, and don't remember a tree stopping me.

Crap! And after all you've been thru with that car. Finally get it sorted out and this happens. Glad to see you're still in one piece and ready to get back on the camel again .
I can relate to your experience also. Fell asleep at 65mph on Rt9 heading for Hartford, went off-roading and traveled 300 yrds in the left bolder lined shoulder. I woke up when one of those reflector topped shoulder markers took out my r/s headlamp and slapped my hood (before passing over the car). Either by sheer luck or frame of mind, I didn't knee-jerk but kept it straight until I biased it back to the travel lane. Dirt & grass everywhere, just like yours. The Conn State Police Trouper was certainly taken aback when he spotted the two tire tracks which proscribed my 300yd off-road adventure. He sited me for "leaving the lane of travel"; drove off shaking his head.

I'd certainly suggest you look at the '02 Accord(s) (Coupe & Sedan). You've got 3/4 of the stuff you'd need already. You'll not get anything close to what you'd want for your bits if you tried to part-it-out.
Insurance is going to "total" it and slap a Salvage title on it. Getting that "Salvage" designation to go away is terrible ordeal, and makes it almost not worth rebuilding it (by my estimation).
Sell it as a "Salvage" car (or let the Insurance Company take it) and bank the proceeds.

LOL... no alcohol involved. I hit the trees after I lost control. You can see where one of them hit in the 4th to last picture. Pretty good size I must say. Chopped them clean off. I was just being STUPID. I won't elaborate on how fast I was going, but a lesson was learned.

If he'd been drinking, most likely he would have passed out, slumped over and woke up without a scratch (just bounced around a little). The car would (most assuredly) would have had more serious issues. I guess those "Crumple Zones" really work (it certainly crumpled)

Well, just look at your upcoming posting to the UAE as therapy - Not a Tree to be seen for miles.

Wow... Didn't really think of it that way.

Actually, I did think about a drunken driver and how they don't get hurt. That's why I just layed back and relaxed when I was flying backwards. It seemed to have worked. Now if i can just work on the dirt in the mouth thing...

Yeh, I want to be around when you explain the grass stained teeth.......

In all seriousness, I'm glad you slid backwards into that immovable object, if the front had taken the brunt, it could have been an entirely different story.
I'm glad to see you've still got your sense of humor.

Any chance the insurance company will pay you more since it had a .... new gas tank??

Glad you're OK. Now you have some time to think about what you want the next ride to be. By the time you get the insurance money I'm sure you'll think of something.

Must have been one hell of a ride (like my motorcyle wreck). Too bad we don't remember one bit of it. I remember laying it down, and that's it. It was 20 years ago, so I don't think it's going to come to me now.
