I don't see how anyone could really get to the point that they would need one on the street no matter how curvy the roads are unless they just don't like to keep their oil level in check.

I think the best bet for the money would be to have some welded into the stock pan such as the HeelToe ones. After that I'd get the Mugen pan. Its probably the most resonably priced thing they sell. The moroso one looks pretty good too.

Keep in mind the Moroso one requires you to trim the ITR transmission brace (Thanks to Dr. Pooface for reporting).

Since you don't want to spend the money, just go ahead and get baffles put into your stock pan.

Moroso now makes 3 different versions of oil pans:

1: A baffeled "stock" steel pan (cheaper then Mugen)
2: A baffeled "stock-like" steel pan with a high capacity kick out
3: A baffeled all aluminum race pan (their original pan)

I recently ordered #2 from King Motorsports and am patiently waiting for it to arrive.

Then it's something that you absolutely don't need. If you're pulling speeds/G's that require a baffled oil pan on the street you are driving dangerously and need to reevaluate the whole situation maturely.

Spend your money elsewhere. OR better yet save the money and take it to the track where a baffled pan would benefit you.

For street driving it is absolutely NOT necessary. However if you still choose to go this route I would recommend the Heeltoe baffles. They are dirt cheap and even if you get a shop to install them it will work out to be cheaper than the Mugen; which I did consider. The only thing the Mugen pan offers is the two vertical baffles.

I run the Heeltoe baffles in my stock pan and they worked great on the track . Plus Marcus is a pimp so give him business

I use the HeelToe baffles in my race car as well..

for street, you should never see the loads that would cause oil starvation, unless you never check your earl, as previously stated..

Let us know if you need to chop your transmission brace to fit.

For those interested in what they look like:

Pan arrived today

here are a couple images:

This is clearly much more then your run of the mill baffeled oil pan (i.e. Mugen). I'll be installing it soon and I'll let you know if there are any fitment issues regarding the transmission brace; but since its still just a modified "stock" pan I don't think there will be issues.

It also comes with a magnetic drain plug. Nice touch!

Major props go out to Clayton at King motorsports for taking care of me! see you at the Expo.

How come on all of the baffled pans, they don't seal weld the perimeter of the baffle at the wall of the pan?

I agree completely.

There is no need for a baffled oil pan if it is just a street car. If you plan to take it to the track in the near future, then it is a worthy investment.

Haven't seen you in ages, good to see you're still kicking

I have the basic "street" pan - it's fantastically inexpensive and works well. You also get a welded bung for turbo return lines should you want to turbo down the line...

I'd guess that it is just to allow more spaces for oil to drain down. The baffles and such are to prevent serious sloshing and then starvation.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by white rocket &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> The only thing the Mugen pan offers is the two vertical baffles.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

I honestly wouldn't compare the heel-toe baffles to the Mugen pan. While they might work similarly you find that the Mugen pan has the 2 verticals (as mentioned) and the plates have a lip built into them around the pickup area. This creates a more functional baffle. Instead of the oil sloshing at 90s out and then at any angle later... it forces the oil to follow a path down to the pickup and thus being just slightly more effective.

I went with a Mugen pan only because I got a deal on one. Otherwise I'd consider the other baffles functionality and possibly use them, not ideal... but functional.

And to add to what others have said... street has 0 use for a baffled pan... if you are finding that you "need" one on the street... you really need to rethink what you are doing.... or figure out how to check your oil levels

Very good point. I did forget to mention the lip on the horizontal baffles. I suppose I was looking at cost versus function is the sense that 20 bucks plus a little labour worked better for me than a $270 pan.

Ah, but sell your pan and the cost drops... and factor in the higher quality and design ... and then find the mugen for cheaper and booom! its ideal

FWIW, I never encountered the need for a baffled pan in six years of track driving/racing
