Default Looking to trade in Vette for a '06 Si

I have a 2001 Z06 with some engine mods that i daily drive. It's a nice car and all but i like to drive in the mountains. I hate drag racing. I'm sick of people wanting to drag race me, or run on the freeway. Dont get me wrong the car handled really well, but it's not really suited for the twisties or at least for my style of driving. It's more racetrack oriented. The only thing holding me back from buying an Si is the curb weight. It's a pig. I want something brand new or else i would buy an S2k or an EVO. Anyone have their Si stripped down? Are they pretty bare bones stock? How much weight do you guys think can be shed from it?

depends on how much money you are looking to spend.

replacing the hood and stripping out the rear interior and backseats and trunk could save you 300lbs or so i would imagine.

Better still, I have an LX Coupe which is a full 225 lbs. LIGHTER than the Si to start with. Swap the motor and you've got a monster on your hands. Let me know when we can simply exchange keys and titles for my Civic and your Z06.

Haha no i'm not kidding. It's not set in stone but i'm seriously considering it. Most of my friends think i'm crazy. I used to have a couple of nissan 240's, but then i got tired of them and now i wish i hadn't sold them. I'm keeping my options open. Speaking of lightweight cars, i can get my hands on a brand new '05 Lotus Elise for 40-41k out the door. But that's more than i really wanna spend on my next car.

Uhm... I don't really know where to begin. I suppose since you aren't worried about how the value of the vette could hold better, or the fact its a bad *** car with lots of possibilities. IF you look past that, and are looking more for a slower, better handling, better 'featured', import... then I suppose the Si would be for you. I just can't see wanting to drop a z06 for a Si. Your choice though, you could proly sell your vette (if it doesnt have a LOT of miles on it) and almost pay off an 06 Si.

Dont feel bad. I sold my 99 FRC Vette and bought an R32... The R was much more fun to drive! The Vette almost belonged on a track!! Just too much power for the roads to have fun. It was like driving a sport bike of a car. One would have to experience it to understand.

As long as you can deal with the lack of torque, you will love the reliability compared to the Vette...I know I did.

I think you're looking for the wrong thing. It sounds like you'd be better served by a sleeper WRX. Get a wagon and add an AccessPort or get a pro turbo tune and you'll be ******* flying.

I smell a troll, this can't be real.....

i'm in the bay area if you wanna kick it. I'm not a troll, i'm an undead warlock. FOR THE HORDE!!!!!!! I'm @ starbucks in burlingame all the time if you dont believe me come have a look.

I used to own a 240 with an sr and a roll cage and nobody ever wanted to race me. But the drag racing thing is just a side effect of it all. What i really want is a car to rotate off throttle so i can bomb into corners. The Z06 does the opposite. It still turns in well (It better with 275mm tires in the front) but you turn in and then use the power to make the car constantly rotate through the corner. If you are running in the mountains and you dont know the roads, then you can't really give it power. A car that rotates off throttle you can pitch it sideways and scrub off speed if there is a decreasing radius that you dont expect. The vette will just understeer if you get off throttle mid corner. Plus super wide tires and wide wheelbase dont feel nice in the twisties.

if you trade in your ZO6, you may as well trade it in for 2 Civic Si's and not just one

dude...i think you should do what you want. my friends told me i was INSANE because i traded in my 04 STi with a ton of mods in (300awhp, 335 lb/ft, volks, JICs, FMIC etc...) for a civic EX. i didnt even get the si. Its my commuter, as i have 100 mile round trip to and from work. the STi used to much gas, and the miles were getting up there (80k) and the maintainance was expensive. it was fun, but you can make the civic fun also. now if i could only find some freakin parts for this car....

Yeah my dad LOVES his 04 STi... he might call you crazy too, but he really enjoys driving my EX. Oh and he also often complains about how his STi such a gas guzzler. But to him I think he'd still rather have those 300 horses... but that's just him. I'll take my EX.
