Major Oil leak please help!
I was driving down the highway yesterday and my b16 crx gives me a check engine light. I figured that it wasnt anything too big because I havent pushed the car or anything. But after a few miles i hit stop and go traffic and i start to smell burning oil so i pull over and look under the hood. The car has oil all around the oil pan gasket and the oil got all over the exhaust manifold. But i took off the oil cap and alittle bit of smoke started to come out of there. By the time the tow truck got me there was a big 5x5 foot puddle of oil on the ground, it was raining so it probably ran all over the place making it seem bigger that it normally would have been. But the next day the mecanic calls and said that the car just seemed to need a new oil pan gasket and that when he turned it on the next day the check engine light didnt turn on. He also said that it didnt leak anyoil all night and that he would try to take it down the road alittle while and see if any oil would come out. As far as oil goes he said that the car was about a quart and a 1/4 low. What do you guys think could have went wrong because it shouldnt leak that much oil that quickly if it just needed a new oil pan gasket. I got an oil change 2000 miles ago so i have no idea what it could be and the mecaanic said that he didnt see anything majorly wrong. Does anyone know where i can get that gasket because i could put that on there myself and save some money thanks people, btw i have a jdm b16a1.
dont know why it would suddenly leak that much oil, but then again if you leaked 1.25 quarts in the rain i think it would have had a bigger puddle, so i think you might've had a leak for a while and you just noticed it. 2000 miles with a bad gasket could leak that much. the check engine light probably came on because the pump wasnt picking up enough oil causing low oil pressure, but you probably already knew that. you can pick up the gasket at a honda dealership's parts store or hondaautomotiveparts.com just get the one for 95 vtec del sol or 99 civic si.
i just replace my oil pan gasket and took me forever. the bolts on the stock header where the 1st peice connects to the second suck. especally the one on the front in between the 2 pipes. use hondabond or rtv gasket sealant and torque down to spec, in sequence. if you need any help let me know.
