Default tranny problem...what is it?

when i'm in first gear, i push it up pass 2K, the tranny makes this loud whirling/grinding noise. what could the problem be? can i save the tranny or just replace it?

it happens at higher RPM on other gears also...

Its the main shaft walking. My transmission did it too. I had to get it rebuilt. It sucks. But yeah I think all D-series transmissions are the same.

Does the sound go away when you push in the clutch pedal? If so, it's your input shaft bearing!

no, it's when i go and the rpm is high. it's not when i'm at idle...

just get a new tranny, all 92-2000 sohc trannies will work w/out mods. i have a 95 EX tranny for $100 if you need one. might as well upgrade while you are doing it.

I wouldn't waste time with a vx tranny. A few months ago i bought a complete vx swap for 50 bucks.

yes, the 00 cx tranny will work. I went from a vx tranny to a 96cx transmission, which is identical to the 00 cx transmission. This is a good transmission to use with the vx motor because it still has long gears but not as painfully long as the vx transmission. To clear up any issues that you might have seeing misinformation as to what gear ratios it comes with....

1st = 3.25
2nd = 1.782
3rd = 1.172
4th = 0.909
5th = 0.702
final = 3.722222222222222222222222222222222222222
