Default D4 lights up when ignition key is on position

This is for a 98 4cyl EX with auto tranny.
I noticed today that when the key is at the on position and dashboard lights are on, the D4 is also lit up ene though the gear shift is at the P position. It has always been that P is lit up and nothing else is on.
I've tried to search to findout what it means but can't seem to get anything. Everything seems to run as normal.
Suggestions?

The D4 light comes on when the computer senses a problem with the transmission, or it's sensors. Get the code read at Autozone (supposedly free), or somewhere else. If the light stays on continuously (not flashing) it usually means computer problems. It could be the shift position switch, but I doubt it.

Even thought the D4 is illuminated, the check engine light does not come on.
I'll try to go to autozone to get them to pull the codes.
Is there any literiture that would explain the transmission codes?

thanks!

I know this is an old thread, but this just happened in my 1999 civic dx. Did you ever figure it out? I can't find it anywhere!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
