I have one hanging on my garage wall.

I bought it (in 1998/1999) because I saw some guys do a exhaust test between 10 different exhausts, and it made the most power/torque. Might have been Godspeed, I don't remember who ran the test.

Anyhow, it's effin' loud without the silencer, and makes less power than stock with the silencer (and is still louder than stock). I ended up using the silencer 99% of the time (with the other 1% being autocrosses and HPDE days).

I never dynoed before/after.

The tanabe is so rediculous loud I can't see any reason to buy it over something else. A lot of N1 style exhausts usually make more power with a trade-off for being loud while traditional style mufflers are quieter but are a little more restrictive usually. If you're n/a you probably won't gain more than 3-5 hp anyways. Pick a style you think looks and sounds good to you. I like the stock R muffler!

I have one, I like it, nice deep tone. I wish I had gone 2.5 exhaust, but mah. I don't find it too loud plus I got a good deal on it. I've had it for a year and was pulled over once, the cop agreed that it wasn't too obnoxious and he did not give me a noise pollution ticket (of course this is a purely subjective thing) Don't hope for huge imporvements over stock though. The R exhaust is pretty good.

But overall for the money I give the Tanabe cat-back a

O if you want I'll post a pic of it on my car in a couple of weeks.

It has a bottleneck @ the B-pipe opening, and the resonator is full of anti-flow "fishscales."

I used to own one, it's also horrendously loud.
