Default 98 accord 4cyl noise

Recently my accord has developed a noise that sounds like a really loud super charger/turbo whine. I have eliminated the posibility of bad alternator bearings. Before I can get to diagnosing any further I was wondering if anybody else has this problem?

any mods on the car?? when i had my intake it made that whistling noise which was caused by the throttle position. Now that i know what it sounds like i still hear it (although at a lower volume) with the stock intake.

check your trans. if you have ruled out accessories and the engine it is either

differential failure or torque converter failure... both are bad news

I don't have any mods and it's a has a manual trans. I seriously doubt a differential failure since it happens when the car is at a stop. It has to be something rotational accesory or engine wise. I have only ruled out the alternator at this point.

Do you have an audio system in your car?

Does the sound only occur when moving? If so check your wheel bearings. I just fixed a similiar problem. Good luck!!

Yeah same here, got louder the faster I went down the road. Cost me about 300 bucks at the shop to get it fixed, but from what I read can go wrong with it if you don't fix it...well worth it..

Have you considered the possibility of alternator whine coming from the speakers? Try turning off all of the audio equipment and see if the problem goes away. Turning down the volume would not be sufficient, you would actually need to turn everything off.

The alternator can also produce an audible whine (coming from the alternator itself, not through the speakers) when under high load.

It is definately not coming from the speakers or a wheel bearing , it's under the hood. It is something in the motor i.e. something driven by a belt. I worked as a mechanic for four years to put myself through college, so I'm good at diagnosing most problems. But, this sound has me stumped. I would say the noise is not as loud as a bad wheel bearing, more like a super carger whine. This accord is twice as noisy as my 90 preude was with twice as many miles. The prelude was an abused rusty leaky piece of **** too, I guess they just don't build em like they used to.

Well, if it's something that's driven by a belt, you obviously don't have a whole lot of things to look at. But without us actually hearing the noise for ourselves, all we can do is take stabs in the dark.

Best of luck to you...
