whats the valve train?
is the valve train a part or does it compose of parts?
And im shopping around for a crank pulley for my 95 b16a3 del sol?
skunk2 doesnt have one, AEM has a pulley but for a 96-97 del sol? what other brands are out there?
how much should porting the head cost me? a mild port, say to a itr setup? I was qouted $600.
thanks.

1.) The camshaft(s) is what control the valve opening and closing. They determine the amount that they travel and also how long they stay open. The valvetrain holds the valves into the head, preventing them from dropping into the combustion chamber and sucks the valves back up to the seat. When upgrading your cam(s), allot of times it is in your best intrest to upgrade your valvetrain to prevent the valves from dropping into the combustion chamber, follow me?
2.) Your crank pulley....unless you're missing your stock one or something, I would stick with what you have. I have heard of the aftermarket crank pulleys actually warping in time and becoming out of round...not good. If you're looking to spend money, spend it somewhere else..you have allot more things you can do that would be more cost-effective to your motor before you need to worry about replacing the crank pulley.
3.) A GOOD head job can run anywhere from $900-1,200, depending on where you take it. Allot of times a local machine shop can give you a quote for "porting" a cylinder head, but it's not as simple as just making the runners larger, there are many secrets and tricks that you need to know when trying to get maximum flow out of the head. I am partial to RLZ, DonF, and Portflow....but there are several reputibal companies out there that can do the job for you.
Not to sound like a dick or anything, but you sound fairly new to this "scene." Can I ask what your budget is and what your goals are? Do you have any mechanical skills to do any of the work yourself? Be realistic here...

Thanks for the info. I not mechanically inclined. I can change oil, replace springs/struts, simple things, but nothing intricate.
Im trying to do a mild upgrade (want to pass ca smog). my only ride nowadays. want to do open track days and auto x this summer.
-since my headgasket is leaking and my timing belt is overdue, i thought i would port the head.
-im also shopping around for stage 1 skunk2 camshafts.
-also the valve springs.
-maybe if i have money: the camgears, but since you recommend not changing the pulley, then...i buy the camgears?
-these changes are pretty much what i can afford for the motor right now.
because...
i need to save money for my brakes.
-im gonna buy blank brembo rotors front and back, since i dunno...to see if theres a difference between brembo and stock. no drilled or slotted for me and cant afford big brake kit.
-still researching on what brand of brake pads. what material type too.
-have some eibach prokit springs(again mild upgrade), but gotta buy camber kit for front and back and also adjustable struts.
So im thinking im gonna spend around 1500 for parts and labor/porting.
