TOYO Proxes 4 or Fuzion ZRi...any experiences??
Hi im running 195/50/15 on a crx and i need a good all around tire ( i already have mounted snows) and i was trying to decide on the proxe 4 or fuzion zri which i can get at the same price. I've been reading up on the proxe and it seems its a new tire and theres not a lot of consumer based info out on it. I heard the fuzion is good on dry pavement. I need a daily driver wheel thats comfortable with the occassional drag. I'm currently on AVS ES100's but i dont like the treadwear on those. Any opinions?? THanks
Well, it all depends on what you're looking for.
The Toyo Proxes 4 is an all-season tire. Outside of winter weather (for which you say you have winter tires), it won't grip anywhere near as well as a summer tire like the Fuzion ZRi or the Yoko ES100, either in rain or on dry pavement. If you are looking for grip, then the choice is easy - don't get the Proxes 4. The Fuzion ZRi is okay, but not as good as the ES100.
As for treadwear, all of the tires you mention are pretty similar in terms of their treadwear rating. I'm not sure why your ES100 aren't lasting long. I've already got 28K miles on a set ('94 GS-R) and they've still got a ways to go before they're down to the treadwear bars flat across. I'll probably get 40K miles on them before they're done, which is more than any other tire I've used on that car.
Why don't you consider the Kumho Ecsta SPT? Performance is slightly better than the ES100 (and a lot better than the Fuzion), treadwear rating is better, and at $54 they're the same price as the Fuzion ZRi ($53) and less expensive than the ES100 ($59).

yea i see what you mean...its just that im need them soon (tomorrowish) and the local shops dont carry any kumho and the only decent tires they carry are the proxe4 and fuzion zri. For some reason i didnt get a lot of mileage outta my es100's and when it rained i hydroplaned like crazy and the traction seemed poor. Taking into consideration both tires are the same price wouldnt the proxe 4 be a better deal lookin at it from that perspective?

Don't settle. Order tires from the Tire Rack and as long as they're in stock, you'll have them within a couple of business days.

Maybe you weren't checking your inflation pressure regularly?
They are really very good in rain (as noted here). The SPT is even better.

No. If I had to choose between those two tires (Toyo Proxes 4 or Fuzion ZRi), and I didn't plan to use either tire in winter weather, I would choose the Fuzion. Better performance, same treadlife rating, same price.
Not to beat a dead horse, but I still think you should consider ordering the Kumho SPT from the Tire Rack, instead of either of those...

ya trust me when I say listen to nsxtasy... last year I should of waited and ordered the kumho spt or es100 and I ended up ordering the 711 and I am regretting it now. My next tire is probably going to be the es100 or the spt. The spt is a fairly new tire so I might consider it a little more.

so far to the SPT's. And they do feel better then my previous sets of es100's when they were new. Just hoping they last longer.

i actually have had the Proxes 4 a few times. I like them ... Very predictable on the Road. but i was running 205-50-15 ... i recomend those for a good alround tire.. i did alot of canyon Running and these tires can hang pretty good but best of all you ll feel it before you actually loose traction. I preffered them over ES100 any day

While I would never want to disagree with nsxtasy (he knows more than I do, certainly), I will add my experience with my Toyo Proxes 4.
I was daily driving Falken Azenis RT-615s, and was tired of them for daily use (5k miles and 50% left), so they're reserved for auto-x and HPDE use now. Went in to the store to buy a set of Fuzion zri, but ended up with the Proxes instead. The Proxes have a substancially softer sidewall, as in, you can feel the difference by just flexing them with your hand. Turn in is slow, and they seem to tramline a bit on the freeway, but otherwise they are perfect for my use. They have more than enough grip for a little spirited driving now and then, and have excellent wet traction. I'm sure the zri would have been a better tire, but I went with the cheaper tire (sale price at the time) with the softer sidewall.

The SPT has a higher treadwear rating (340 vs 280) but that doesn't always mean everything. Especially when comparing between brands.

Yup, and very similar in performance. The SPT is better in rain, though. And in certain sizes, the SPT has a nice price advantage; in others, they're priced almost exactly the same.

Both the SPT and the ES100 can outperform the Proxes 4 any day of the week, ten times out of ten, dry roads or wet. If you don't have to drive on snow, where the all-season Proxes 4 has its only advantage, that's a very easy choice.

Thats why I'm crossing my fingers.
I'm hoping that Kumho is a little conservative in its rating and I have a feeling that the es100's weren't getting the milage they should have been getting with the 280 rating. SPT's have been great so far.

same here, the spt is alot better than the 712(i think i said the same thing when the 712 replace the 711), wet traction is ten times better then es100
es100 have slightly more dry traction, but i can't feel the different on the street.
