Default Looking at an Acura 2.3CL this weekend...

It's a '99 2.3CL, 13x,xxx miles, 5spd.

Just wondering if there's anything specific that I should look for on the car...I don't know these things too well (OK I don't know them at all - I'm a domestic guy and this will be my daily driver).

Anything that commonly goes bad on these cars, or should I just check the regular stuff (slipping clutch, check belts/hoses/fluids, etc.).

*Edit - this is a one owner car, but was purchased at an auction by a dealer, so chances are, I won't be able to tell when/if the timing belt was replaced. How hard is it to change on this car?

Thanks
Matt

I have a 2.2CL for a daily driver. The car has no power... I mean none. Other than that it's a good car.

Merging onto the highway can be frustrating. It's all about timing when you have no power.

not much if anything goes bad on these cars. Sometimes the balancer shaft(it has 2) seal will walk its way out of its bore and leak oil everywhere. So if the timing belt has been changed then hopefully the monkey that did it also put in the retainer for the balancer shaft seal.

The timing belts are fairly easy, same old story. Take off belts and motor mount and whammo its right there, like any honda pretty much. They are pretty bulletproof cars!

Make sure to check for vin stickers on fenders and body panels. Good luck.

i beg to differ. i have a 2.2 also. Is yours automatic? Cuz downshifting gives me plenty of power to keep up and even bypass the flow of traffic.

Another thing to watch out for, im not sure if its just the 97s or all of them, was the clutch master cylinder. They had some recalls on that, just see if its leaking. no big deal really just hafta change the fluid more often.

edit: blazin si, i just checked your garage. of course the CL is gonna seem slow to you a b18c in a light car compared to an F22 in a luxury automobile. give the CL some credit tho. it's got some pickup
