a freind of mine is tryin to sell me a bare type r block for a real cheap price...
but .. my question is, is it possible to build back a block from scratch??
The reason I ask this is because, there is nothing that comes with this block, no crank, pistons, nor the crank caps...
he told me i can jus buy some aftermarket stroker kits, such as eagle, and they should come with the caps... or line bore it with parts from another b sereis block
can some one please advise before I invest into this block...
keep in mind, im rev happy, and want a safe motor to rev to high 8k rpms...
thanks

hehe.. your not gettin what i said when i said block, .. litterally just the metal block.. with the holes for the piston, and no crank, and no caps to hold the crank in...
if i try to line bore some new crank caps,... im i lookin for trouble.. is it worth the hassle?
has anyone attempted such a mission before w/ success-failure?

Thats going to be a rough rebuild with no caps its just about useless.. Have you priced all that stuff yet? you should.

I got it now. I would only do this if you plan on building some crazy race engine. If you are planning on just building an itr engine (frankly not sure what you are trying to build) in the end it will just be cheaper to go buy a used one from jdm land.
I would not attempt this unless you know exactly what you are doing and plan to do all the work yourself. I can't see this beeing a good idea if you plan on paying someone to do it.
Based on what you have said here I would say no.

Rather than trying to match caps, just get caps from any B18C motor and have the main tunnel align-bored. Then you'll have to find a crank, measure it, measure the main tunnel bores and buy new bearings based on your measurements.
Personally, I'd just find a block with the original caps, it will be a lot less hassle, and you'll probably save a lot of money.
