Default spoon thermostat and fan switch

I have a fluidyne radiator, a spoon thermostat, and spoon fan switch on my 2000 gsr. The engine now runs around 150 degrees. Could the termostat be stuck open because I think that it is running too cool. Please help.

that's how my car ran minus the fluidyne.

car gets up to normal temps around town, but as soon as I get on the highway the needle goes straight back down to cold.

If it's back down to cold, then I don't think VTEC will engage...

So is it not recommend to get the spoon or mugen thermostats if daily driving?

OK, I have the Spoon thermostat and the thermoswitch. I also have a C & R radiator. My car never has a problem hitting VTEC once it is warmed up. However, it does stay very cool on highway runs and just right around town. On colder days at the track, I need to rev up alot to get me warmer in time to launch

i have a mugen thermostat and mugen thermoswitch, stock itr radiator, no idle problems at all. havent datalogged the water temp yet on the hondata so cant give you any numbers, but car warms up quickly and stays at 1 line below half on the gauge in the cluster. i like the setup personally

I think the culprit is the radiator. I don't think you really need the fanswitch and thermostat when you have a nice flowing radiator. IMHO, thermostat, fanswitch, radiator cap is most useful for those with stock radiator.

Trey has all spoon setup... Jeff (Pyromaster) has all Mugen setup... I wonder what they have to say.

i agree with gsr98vtec - i've got the M00gen rad cap, thermostat, and thermoswitch and notice that it seems to warm up a bit faster and i'll hear the fan come on sooner than before when i'm driving around town but the stock gague shows at about the same place. I just drove to bham and back last weekend and the temp stayed the same. i also hit vtec in 4th on an exit ramp after 2+ hours of driving and everything worked fine. the M00gen setup gets a from me

check kings website Mike. Josh and I put it in over the weekend. its like 40.00 for the thermoswitch. the culprit is the fluidyne, i agree with cosworth on that. you dont need the other little items if you have the big and good of a radiator. Mike, go order you mugen thermoswitch, i know you need to put in one on the b20. BTW, you got the carbon fiber climate control piece from Topspeed on Monday right. if not, its yours, but i think you left with it.

I spoke to mike at IPS racing and he said running the spoon thermostat, spoon fans switch, spoon radiator, and a fluidyne radiator is overkill unless it is very hot out. He recomended only running one of them unless there is track time involved.

Type One R:
you contacted me about buying my thermostat. I was going to reply back to you today, but you're not listed the member's list anymore. If you see this msg, IM or email me.

oh, another thing, that prolly made my car run really cool was straight distilled water in the radiator w/ some Neo Keep Cool in it.

The Mugen fan switch is basically the same thing as the Spoon one, but much cheaper. I don't see any reason getting the Spoon and not the Mugen.

Did I just say Mugen and cheap in a same sentance??

I think the earth just stopped on its axis.

It is still a lot of money for a bloody switch though.

For my GSR this is what I use for cooling.

1) 100% H20 with 1/2 bottle of redline water wetter
2) 160 degree thermostat from Pep Boys
3) spoon radiator cap

Car runs at 180 degrees water temp as indicated on my autometer water temp gauge...when its fully warmed

Wrong. The spoon switch turns on earlier, but is the price difference worth the extra cooling?

That's why I said "basically" and not "exactly"!!!
