Default How much did you pay for ur '06+ civic, and some other misc. questions..

Well, I'll be looking to purchase a new civic probably in the upcoming future, and I'm curious what people paid for their cars. I'm most interested in a Civic EX Sedan manual. I'm guessing prices may be a little higher now since they're new, but has anyone gotten one for invoice + TTT?

Also, the civic ex does have a removeable headunit w/ the non-nav model, correct? So it can be replaced w/ an aftermarket headunit?

Does the civic have actual DRL(daytime running lights)? I really hate DRL, so I hope that's a no..

Lastly, what kind of mileage are people getting from these cars? Are people averaging ~mid 30's mpg?

Thanks for the help.

DRL's are standard. If you don't want that safety feature, pull the fuse or something

You can't remove the deck. If you did, it would look quite unsightly. At least, to the best of my knowledge. I sell about 4 a month but <shrug> never seen one with the head unit removed since it's part of the dash.

If you're looking for at or near invoice price, your best bet is to try a superstore or internet pricing. Retail side is averaging 1200 over invoice at our store.

Let me amend that, if you did remove the stock head unit, you would need some sort of new dash. If you were able to get your hands on a navi dash, it might look ok with an aftermarket. I dunno. I'm exhausted.

I can do w/o the "safety feature" of DRL.. What a waste of energy having lights on during the day. I guess some people have a hard time remembering to turn on their headlights when it's raining out and when it's darker..

Regarding removing the deck.. i was looking at pictures on honda.com and it looks like a regular din sized headunit...? Since all stock stereos royally suck(the vast majority), this would be the first thing to go. I wasn't looking to remove the headunit and leave a gaping hole, but rather upgrade it with a nice alpine head unit, etc. Is the headunit integrated into the dash like some more expensive cars? If so, that's definetly a huge downside.. While I can understand why manufacturers include built in-dash stereos, I still think they're horrible for anyone that cares about good sound quality. My brother just got a new TL a few months ago, and i'm amazed how poor the stereo is..

I was just looking for a decent daily driver down the road that gets decent mileage and the civic is looking worse and worse off.. The accord is a tank imo, so maybe i'll be forced to look at something like a corolla.. which I think is hideous.. oh well..

The DRL's don't really use any energy at all since the battery charges hella fast while driving. When you turn your car on and if you have the e brake up, the DRL's wont even turn on until you drop the e brake. They have nothing to do with "people forgetting to turn on their headlights." They're good for a couple reasons- 1) Lets say you enter a tunnel that is poorly lit, you already have some light source on to help you out. 2) Do you think a car making a lane change will notice you more when they see your lights on in their side or rear view mirror? Yep. I don't see how anyone could not like DRLs. They have had DRL's on Hondas in Japan forever and I'm stoked we finally have them standard.

The pictures on Honda's website are the radio combinations you can buy from Honda to put a radio in the DX...All others come with the integrated dash radio unless you have the navi. There is a writeup on 8thcivic.com about replacing the integrated radio with an oem navi dash/brackets and a din size pocket to put in an aftermarket single din headunit, or without the pocket you can put in an aftermarket double din navi.

About pricing, for a reference point I am paying $19,000 after 6% tax, tag, title, and with foglights for an Ex coupe 5spd in rallye red. Sucks though because I had a dealer offer me a rallye red si for $1000 under msrp yesterday, offer was only good through this morning though

Yes, DRL's may not use alot of energy, but don't be a fool and think they're "free." The alternator has to do more work because some people can't drive... If I put spotlights on my car in all directions to let other people know that I was there, that would be ok then? Sorry, but I've never had trouble seeing other cars in the daylight. The people that do probably shouldn't be driving, because I sure don't have a problem differentiating an empty lane w/ an occupied lane. Sure it may help a little, but like I said, it's far from free and not worth it. DRL's kind of remind me of airbags, but to a lesser degree of stupidity..

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated. At first I was shocked all the crap that was needed but actually reading through it it's probably not too bad. Anyone have any pics w/ an aftermarket headunit? Also, anyone know how to disable the DRL's w/o messing w/ the wiring? I'm sure there's a way I could rig them to work like "normal" headlights, but I don't intend on touching anything besides the stereo, to keep the warranty nicely intact. Thanks.

You do realise that the DRLs are not for you to see better. They are so that others will see you. You may be a very competent driver, but not everyone is. This feature will improve the probability that someone else who is a less competent driver will see you better, thus diminishing the odds that you will be involved in a head on collision.

DRLs have been mandated here in Canada for 16 or so years, and only after studies in Sweden showed that head on collisions were reduced as a result of DRLs. Tell you what, keep your DRLs. Though you feel you don't need them, think of the lesser drivers out there, and how they'll feel when they hit you head on because they didn't see you and your daytime running lights. Think of how they will feel when their mistake takes your life and the lives of your loved ones.

Yes I do realize that DRL's are for other people, and I'm aware that Canada has required them for years. My point is that the benefits are negligible imo. For the people that are concerned, they can choose to turn on their headlights. If the DRL's can be disabled via simply pulling a fuse than I'm content.

I've been driving for over 10 years not without DRL's and no problems. They remind me of the Cavalier a friend used to own. I would be playing outside and here he comes with the lights on at 4pm I'll be pulling the fuse when I pick up the 06 EX sedan

I've always thought it's a waste and stupid idea to have lights on during the day Just my opinion on the subject

Maybe a stickied reference section for '06 and up Civics would be a good idea for info like this and that foglight installation guide that was posted recently

what's the beef about DRL? they look cool, they provide extra caution and they don't dimish the car's performance in anyway. get over it. it's the law to have DRL on new cars.

"Look cool," LOL, great point riceboy. If you think they "look cool" good for you, but they do cause the alternator to put more load on the engine, hence burn more gas. It may be negligible, but it shouldn't be mandated like Canada. If you want to turn your lights on fine, but it shouldn't be required. Do some research, google is your friend..

The added "safety" is very negligible probably at best. Btw, there are plenty of legal things that are idiotic, if you simply choose to follow along like a lemming that is your choice, but some people like to think for themself.
