Default OBD1 or OBD2

So i just bought a 98 gsr motor and I guess its obd2 from the year. I want to throw it in my EG hatch which is obd1. Will it work or do I need to buy an obd1 gsr harness and dizzy? my friend who's doing the swap said it wont work and that imma need obd1 gsr harness and 94 dizzy. Is this accurate? Any help would be cool. I search but nothing to my needs came up.

the wiring is the last thing i need before the car is able to run. Everything else is hooked up. PLease someone help. I decided to try and use the OBD2 wiring, but there are a few connections that I dont know where they go. Also, I know there is something specific to do with the dizzy but I dont exactly know what. The write-up didnt help me much. Can someone help me out. Im using a P28 btw.

the obd2 gsr harness will plug directly into your car harness, get an obd1 gsr ecu to run it. simple as that.

no you need an obd1 ecu for the GSR, or chipped to run GSR maps. not sure about what wiring you are refering too maybe adding vtec?? other than that it should be plug and play on your car.
