Default Small oil drips on crank-flywheel seal. Should I be worried?

This is a picture of what the plate between the crankshaft and the flywheel looks like. There is a small oil dripping, not where the rear main gasket is, but in the center of the crankshaft. Should I do something about it or is it alright? I did use some heat to loosen the flywheel-to-crank bolts, but not much.

Thanks peeps. Hoping it's nothing to worry about!

While you already have the tranny off go to the dealership and buy a rear main seal. Save yourself some time and money...

I'm with him /\ You might as well go ahead and replace the rear main while you're at it!

The rear main is the black larger circle, not the inner one...

I could be falling from the top, collecting on the center ring, and then dripping,

Clean it off real good let it sit, give it a few rotations, and if you can see from where it's leaking...

I would think if your crank was cracked you would have already seen a more catastrophic failure.

but there is a first time for everything

Well I wiped it, turned it over, waited a few hours, no leaks, I put the new flywheel on. If it does become a problem down the road the transmission was surprisingly easy to take off, so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks for the replies!

Did you at least replace the rear main seal?

I want to replace that seal on mine before I assemble it. But that seal is tough to get off, anyone has tips on how to remove it?

I wouldn't be hammering anything anywhere near the seal. A hook always works for me...

Just be careful not to hit the aluminum housing or scratch the are on which the seal sits.

It's very hard to use a hook to remove this seal.

I usually use a hammer and and a punch, and punch down on the seal

^^Yup I punched it out that way. I got a little gouge on the cover housing where the seal goes. This shouldn't be a problem right?

maybe.....
maybe not....
depends on how deep it is...

you could take a SMALL bead of silcone sealant (the grey stuff) and put it on the housing where the seal goes.

Just to clarify, I DID change the rear main seal while it was out, I just used a flathead screwdriver and some soft taps, came out fairly easily w/o scratching a thing! woohoo!
