Default Did my starter take a **** on me?? I searched also. Please HELP ME...

CAr was fine last night (93 civic d series). This morning I go to start it and it won't start..wtf. It only clicks. I checked the fuses and all that. Would it be the starter? and if so would it just stop working like that? How hard is it to replace? I read through some of the other identical posts and they said that there are two bolts. Is it the one on the top and bottom of the starter area. Thanks.

A little history...since i had the car for two years (150,000 miles) it always gave a rough start.

EDIT - I just went and bought a starter..same problem..oh well...it's prolly the battery.

I had these same symptoms when my old battery was starting to die on me. Once I replaced the battery, it fired right up.

Definately check your battery first, make sure it has a full charge. Sometimes it will have enough juice to click the relay and prime the pump but not turn the motor. If you have a full battery, then move towards the starter...you can check to see if it has a dead spot (by hitting it like posted above) and also make sure all your grounds are good.

It is either the battery or the starter itself. A battery test at any autoparts store will tell you if it is the battery. If its the starter, swap out the starter. A bad starter will cause the car to die and run like hell.

try to jump the starter, get a large screwdriver and jump the terminals on the back of the starter with the key in the "on" position, if it starts then there is something wrong with the solenoid which is mounted inside the starter so the whole thing will need to be replaced.

thats an easy check
