Default Bringing an ITR over from Canada...

Hey guys,

My friend here in CALI is really interested in purchasing a nicely modded and mint ITR in the British Columbia, CANADA...

What does he have to do to get it here?

What he was thinking was to get the seller to drive it over to the american side (he doesnt live far from the border..) and he would pick it up and put her on a trailer and drive her back to CALI and deal with customs/DMV @ home... can he do that? can the seller just drive it over legally and hand the buyer the car in the states and catch a ride home??

Any input wold help!

Canada to the US is a tad harder than the opposite. There is a wait time, broker fees, duty, taxes, etc. I only have experience bringing vehicles up here to BC from the US.

Where is the ITR located? I probably know the seller. PM some details and maybe I can be of some assistance

Get the seller to get a compliance form from Honda Canada for California. This states that the vehicle meets all the regulations to register in cali. Makes it easier to register.

Yeah the compliance letter shouldn't be a problem.. i was just wondering if the canadian dude can bring the car over to the united states, and my friend tow it back home and deal with customs, crap here in CALI??

Shouldn't be a problem. When my buddy had to register his car he did everything in cali. Just went to the San Fran port to get all the customs stuff done. Once he had the paperwork in hand from port registration was easy.

i recently imported & registered my canadian R in the US ( )

you need the letter of compliance from the manufacturer (the car will comply). you'll probably need to get it e-tested too to register it (that's state specific... but if WA needed it, i'm sure you will )

since you haven't owned the car for >1 year you will need to pay tax on it as well.

head to the customs office and they will have the forms you need to fill out. you'll need the canadian registration / title (they're the same document for us), and you may need proof of insurance. customs will stamp a document for you, then you can go on your merry way to the licensing office to get it registered.

if you need more specifics on what documents customs needs.. lmk, i can try to dig that stuff up.

There is info there on every last little thing you are supposed to do for a canadian vehicle, but I'd be willing to bet 9 out of 10 people don't do any of it. See if you can just take a copy of the Canadian title into your DMV and see what they tell you to do.
