HMM, I just noticed this today. For the past few days ive noticed theres a bit of an oil trail on my transmission/bottom of my block. Sort of near where the Oil pressure switch is on my JDM B16. So today while the car was hot, I opened the hood and this was what I observed:

After having wiped the oil off, it returned. So i suppose I have a constant leak. Anyway, Between where the Transmission (maybe clutch housing?) mates up to the engine, there are bubbles coming out of it. Looks like oil. Its right next to the b16 stamp. Is this some sort of gasket which needs to be replaced or what?

 

that's weird....there's nothing there b/w the tranny and engine.... All the VTEC stuff is above that....but if it doesn't look like it's coming from there or the dist. then I don't know what to tell you.

 

i have a cam seal leak and it tends to leave oil down there, id check your cam seals

 

My bet goes to the rear main oil seal. But first you have to rule out all other possible leaks and areas above the tranny. I still go with rear main oil seal though.

 

theres no way oil can be comming out of that seam, thats the tranny bell housing, you clutch is in there and absoutly no oil is there, I has to be leaking down from your head, and it may look like its bubbling from maybe the clutch spinning creating a little draft at the seam

 

Well I do have a leak on that side of my engine. I guess its the headgasket...The leak is on the left-hand corner of , kind of neat the vtec solenoid. I just replaced the headgasket like 4 months ago. It stopped for like 2 weeks after, but then started to leak again. Whats up with that you think?

 

cam seal, HG or maybe even the dizzy could leak and run down to there. But as already stated there is no way anything can come from that seam cause theres no fluids running back there... Id check the cam seal first, I bet thats it. But the bubbles I cant explain, I couldnt see them in the pic

eh, I have never seen a rear main leak get oil up there. It would have to be severely torn to the point where oil is spraying out of the seal onto the flywheel and getting flung around.

 

I had the same problem.

For the first few weeks after I boosed my motor I was still running the stock PVC system. I blew out 2 oil pan gaskets. The oil pan goes in past the inspection plate so I was leaking oil into the tranny bell housing and im assuming the flywheel was spinning the oil up. I had oil slowly seeping out from the whole area where the tranny and block meet.

I have since hooked up an open breather catch can system and put my 3rd oil pan gasket in ( ) and the problem has stopped. There is still a stain mark left though. Good luck!

 

Also check the VTEC solenoid gasket. I had the same problem on my LS/VTEC setup and thought it was the HG. I replaced the HG and the problem still persisted. Then I changed the Solenoid gasket and the problem went away.

Well there is always the rear main oil seal which is a seal withing the tranny's bell housing and yes oil can leak out there. It happened to a buddies B17 and it leaked so bad it flung oil everywhere and it caused him to spin a bearing due to the loss of oil.
