would it be easier to keep it on and mask surrounding areas and then paint?

yea you can do that and still make it nice.
One word of advice. Do not get paint inside where the caliper pistons are. Its the thing that is covered by the only rubber covered thingie on the caliper. Its not fun when it gets stuck in the closed position.

I painted mine and left the calipers on. I just covered the rotors and everything with aluminum foil. easy to shape and does the job very well. just be sure to let the paint dry all the way before driving otherwise you'll get brake dust stuck to the paint and you'll have to start all over again.

I painted mine with 500 degrees duplicolor engine enamel. It's held up fine so far no chipping or anyting. I sprayed the paint in a bowl and used a half inch paint brush to apply it. I did 2-3 coats on each caliper.

i used VHT high-temp caliper paint and it's held up for about a year (and numerous track days) and it still looks perfect.

yes, im bringing this back up. im in need to repaint my itr calipers and was wondering what color is should go with. powdercoat them black or media/sand blast then which would leave silver color. i would love to get them back the the original goldish color but i know its impossible. post pics if you can of black calipers or silver ones. thanks
