POLL: ITR Ownership
There are just so many factors, though. Some drive theirs daily, some keep it in their garage. Some live in a more theft prone area, whereas others do not. Some people are more careful where they park the car. Some have good house/auto security systems. Some people sleep with their guns (
). Etc etc.
Interesting poll, though.

I'm going to be on my third summer soon with my baby. Even though it has cost me about $7000 in repairs or upgrades since I bought it... I still love it though!

I've owned my R for close to 8 months w/o issue. I've owned a 98 GS-R that was stolen after about a year... and a 2000 GS-R that was broken into after about a week. I moved and have not and any problems since.

The options get re-sequenced based on the number of votes. Since he posted right after I put the poll up, I assume Dave_B is referring to the option which was originally listed last: "I've never owned an ITR but I want to vote too."

Agreed. But I figured some information was better than none. The only variable I added to the options was length of time owning the car, just to differentiate the short-termers (who presumably don't have as much time for the car to get stolen) from the long-termers.
I thought about adding other variables - sure, you're right, those are some of the ways in which the car can be protected - but at least, with this poll, maybe we can get just a rough idea of the overall chances, averaged across all of those other variables.

5 years with the current R in Westchester County New York. The first one had a duel with a deer and lost after 8 months.
I knew the theft issues and risks before I bought the first one. I took precuations and kept out of areas and situations where theives may be hunting. I daily drove it debadged, dewinged with full wheel covered steelies for 2 years to avoid any attention. Now the wing is back on and parked hidden in the country (knock on wood) and still no silly stickers or red A's. There shouldn't be any issues even when we move into a new house next year.
My car doesn't have a single theft deterrent device installed either. I'm sure we can agree that the chipped key doesn't really count as a deterrent.
But there's always that chance. And ya gotta be aware of it all the time.

IMO this is poll is not going to work.
What about those owners who had their ITRs stolen, (their last post was to tell us that its been stolen.) never to come back again?
How will they know about this poll since they moved on to other cars?

Didn't work for me.
Didn't work for me.
Two and a half years. Never stolen, garaged after the first year, and was kept under a car cover most of the time it was outside.
But:
1) Broken into, nothing stolen
2) Egged. $2k of paint damage
3) Hit-and-run, cosmetic damage to bumper
4) Spoiler stolen. Large bill to replace entire hatch.
Would have been molested more if I had driven it much, I'm sure. I only put 24k miles on #009

My sentiments, exactly.
