Default 220v in my garage

whats up guys. im trying to save up to get my first welder and i was wondering how much did you guys pay to get a 220v in a garage? I got back from wyotech where i learned to weld and fabricate in my chassis fab class and i am itching to get back into making stuff.

I spent about $200 for everything. That was 50 feet of 6 gauge for each 110, and 50 feet of one 8 gauge neutral. The conduit is cheap and the receptical was about $15. The wire definately cost me the most money. The dual 60 amp breakers was only $10.

do it yourself it's real easy. save youself the 2-300 bucks and buy a bigger welder. only takes about 15 minutes depending on the length of the run. my outlets are right below my service panel. not sure if you can see it in this pic but there are 2 outlets to the right of the compressor. 1 is on a 60 amp and the other is on a 50 amp dual breaker. 6 gauge and 8 gauge respectively. a you have to do is remove the panel over the service panel. punch out an access hole for the wires. run a wire into the service panel and the other end to the outlet. connect the ground and 2 hots to the outlet and then mount the outlet to the wall. on the panel side connect the ground to the ground bus and the 2 hots to the breaker. once that's done make sure the breaker is in the tripped position and slap the breaker in. if you comfortable enough you can do it hot. i did all mine hot. there are no risks until you slap the breaker in. just be careful when slapping it in. i did my compressor too. that one is hard wired straight to a 30 amp breaker using 10 gauge.
