OK to run 81mm head gasket on 84.5mm block?

Spoke to someone today who is actually doing this on a turbo setup. I was under the impression you HAD to run a gasket the size of the cylinders, not the size of the head chambers. I would think with gasket material open in the combustion chamber that it could cause problems with hot spots or ruin the gasket all together. Any thoughts?

yeah i agree... that gasket is asking for failure
