how to properly store a crx.
?ok, well back in september when i was looking for a beater to drive while i built my prelude engine, i came accross a 91 crx SI for 2500. when i went to look at it i was suprised to find that it was all stock, and original, with a tiny bit of rust developing in the driverside quarter. i plan on fixing this, and then i wanna store the car so that i can have it forever, in its brand new condition. might sound funny to store a crx or any honda for that matter, but i love this car to death and i dont want anything to happen to it. i wanna wait till its old enough to get the historic plates and maybe drive it on sundays, and eventually give it to my kids oneday. i can only store it in my backyard with a cover on it. do u think this will affect anything over time? should i drain the fluids? remove battery? or just leave it there covered and start it every now and then.

They make environmentally controlled bubbles that you can put the car in (seriously) and there is no good way to keep rust out without it. Metal + moisture = rust. Get the moisture out, and the car should be fine. UV light destroys interior and plastic trim, so covering it takes care of that, but the air itself with cause the plastic to eventually break down.
Dig a hole and make a steel box you can fit the car in, fill the motor completely with oil, to the top of the valve cover. Put car in steel box, surround with TONS of those moisture absorbing beads you use to keep plants alive.. Weld top on box.
Like a time capsule.
And when you die or forget about it or move... Someone a few hundred years from now will find a really cool old car in perfect shape!

If you don't have a garage I don't know how good of an idea it is too have it stored too long. Maybe you could rent a storage center. My friend used one of those as a garage for a while once. Hell, even one of those metal storage containers would be good. But just a cover would not be a good methos for long periods of time.

to that, just leave the keys and title (open title) with the car and tell me where you put it.
kidding...
i forgot to look at your location...but up north (or where it snows) people store their boats in the winter because the lakes and large bodies of water tend to freeze over...some people store their boats outside, and some store them inside...look around your area for places that store things, i'm about 100% this will help you.
good luck, and good idea... i wish i was your kid. (but only if this was an Si)

Good idea, I'm lovin this idea of re-storing crx's back to original show room shape, and this time capsule idea. couldn't imagine having a car as fun as a crx and not driving it though...

if its that important to you then why dont you just pay to have to stored somewhere cause i WILL rust outside in the winter. Im glad your gonna keep it all stock tho
i do plan on getting another one just to mod, and daily drive. just this one is so cherry and i know i will beat it to the ground, and god forbid i give it its first accident after living accident free for all this time. the car still has the original fenders, doors, hood, motor/trans. and the seats/interior is mint. yeah i know cars are meant to be driven, thats why ill get another one or a hatch to beat on and modify and if i crash it who cares. if not then ill have one that is original and one that is turbo vtec with all the bells and whistles. only if i daily drive this, not only will wear and tear affect it but theres a higher chance that ill get rear-ended or some freak thing will happen.

as long as you have that moisture absorbant stuff and i off the ground so air can get under the car along with a decent cover u should be fine outside in winter

If I were you, I'd invest in a storage shed/garage/some space. If you're planning to say...store the car for 5+ odd years, pull the motor/tranny. Just starting it once in a while won't really help. Cars need to be driven in order to circulate fluids and keep everything in check. The longer they sit, the more problems they'll have down the road.

a dry indoor storage place is the best.
if you have to leave it outside, try to keep it on something paved. grass holds lots of moisture. either way, get it up high on some jackstands and cover it with a good outdoor cover.
whichever place you choose, disconnect the battery. change the oil before you store it (old oil is bad for it). tiny bit of oil in the cylinder, then turn it over without the plugs in and replace the plugs. should be good to go. have some good caliper lube on the caliper slides. you can take the rotors inside if will be a long time.
there was a really good thread in the ax/rr section about storing cars (racecars don't get driven much) but i couldn't find it.
