Default Barn Find CRX - Where do I start??

Hello, I saw an old CRX sitting in somebody's barn on my way home from school, so I knocked on his door and he said I could have it. So I scored a free CRX.

Here's the car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSCH...ature=youtu.be

I have no idea where to start with this thing. It seems to be in pretty rough shape, although it has a valid inspection and is legal to drive on the road. When I connect the battery to it the horn blares non-stop.

Well I unplugged the fuse for the horn, and the engine turns over but there's no fuel. I connected a battery directly to the fuel pump and nothing happened. Looks like I'm searching for the cheapest solution for a fuel pump!

Try replacing the main relay first! This could halt the fuel pump from turning on. If not, then there might be damage to the "fuel sending unit assembly" which is located on the top of the fuel tank. You will need to drop the tank to access this.

well first thing is getting those leaves off it so you don't suck one down the intake
if you have tested the fuel pump and you think you need to replace it
after you do if that thing has been sitting many years then
disconnect the fuel line off the throttle body and stick it inside a garden hose
duct tape around it to seal it tight.. you might need some type of adapter hose
and then pump that into a fuel can until you empty the tank by
turning the key to on. And it will just pump and pump and pump until the tank is empty

When I do that I normally hook up a battery charger to the battery
because it takes a while to empty the tank and you will drain your battery
but siphoning it from the gas cap is not going to work
just let your fuel pump pump it out

then you will want to
replace all of your vacuum lines
you will need like 7 feet of 5/32nds interior diameter vacuum line

check your plugs.
don't check your distributor you will likely damage the button on the rotor
but you might eventually want to change your rotor and cap if its running bad
but right now don't

O2 Sensor might need changing but maybe not right away just to get it running.

change your oil
change your radiator fluid

If you don't have the OEM tube and filter box then get an aftermarket one and put an air filter on it

oh and the first thing really that you should do is
buy a can of wd40 or penetrating oil and go around and spray every nut you can find
and repeat that a few times

others have said it might not be the fuel pump
if the car hums when you turn the key but don't crank the engine then the fuel pump is good

what else

clean it ..
get some degreaser and clean the engine compartment really well

Get yourself copies of the CRX Service Manual you can probably find a copy online

ummmm if it smells like crap inside of it then get yourself an Ozone Generator
you just stick the box sealed in the car for a day or so and it kills all the bacteria that
is living in the carpet and seats

umm

relatively soon you will probably want to change the timing belt
its not too hard to do and you can get a kit with belt and water pump for about $100

change your alternator belt

bleed your brakes really well to flush the lines.. put about a quart through it
suck out the old with a new dollar store turkey baister before you add the new.

what else what else...
Pepboys is about the cheapest for those batteries.. expect to pay $100 or more.. they screw you on the batteries

however if you put in an aftermarket breather tube and filter maybe you can fit a regular sized battery in there
600cca rating would be fine so that would cost you $50

Other than that you see what it needs and you replace it

I would expect to put $500 into it easy in just getting it to run ok parts

when you want to paint it
$10 Harbor Freight HVLP paint gun

www.PaintForCars.com
Urethane Paint Kit Base Coat Clear Coat .. $150
or just get gallon of Urethane Single Stage and it will be shiny $75

I got a 90

Or just take out the drain plug at the bottom of the tank and drain into a hogpan.
