Default Dented oil pan....

I ran over a ******* muffler on the way home tonight. No body damage, and the car drove like normal for about 15 miles home at highway speeds. The alignment is a bit off now, but, the pan is my main concern. It is dented, but nothing really major.

Should I be concerned?

No leaks, just a nasty dent.

The only thing I'd be worried about is the oil pickup. It sits really low in the pan. If the dent is in the right spot, it could bend the oil pickup and restrict flow.

When I bought my motor, it had pretty big dent in the pan. Here's what I found after removing the pan.

I'd at least pull the pan off and see how the oil pickup looks. If it's okay, just grab a rubber mallet and hammer the pan back out.

Better yet, go to the local pick-and-pull and get an undented pan. And just grab the pickup while you are at it. It should be cheap.

post a pic of the dent, i hit a pretty bad pothole that dented my oil pan up a good amount and my pickup wasn't damaged . i wouldn't get a new pickup unless you know yours is damaged. if its that bad pull the pan, and check everything out, you can do as said above and hammer the thing out if you want. i'd post a pic or something thought just so everyone can get an idea of how bad you hit the muffler and if it could have caused any pickup damage.

Make sure the pickup is ok....make sure the screen is clean might as well since you have the pan dropped. replace the gasket and put a new pan on. It's easier then worrying about whether or not your leaking. Plus it's like 5$....
Get rocca pads to stop your leak.

I would be most worried about the pick-up. My opinion would be to get a new one and oilpan and gasket. Beter safe then sorry. much easier to replace this stuff the a motor.
