Default help with swap, which ecu?

Ok guys, my friend's having a little trouble with a h22 swap that he's just about got done. Here is the info:

Swapping a 99 USDM obd2 h22 into a 96 obd2 h23 prelude. The car runs beautifully with the stock h23 ecu in it. The motor came with a obd1 p13 ecu. We hooked up the conversion harness and fire it up only to find it running like crap and throwing CELs. So we said screw it, we'll stick with obd2. Now as I understand it, the 97-01 ecus comes with the immoblizer system within the ecu and won't work.

So which ecu can I use? Am I stuck having to find a '96 vtec M/T ecu? I kinda need some help? Anyone have one of those ecus laying around? Why doesn't the car like OBD1? Help.

i cant answer why your car doesnt like the obd1 but i would recommend on getting the hondata set up on the car, for that you will need to get a p72 or p28 ecu and the hondata pkg. this way you can go get it tuned at a dyno to the way u desire

also post in wanted obd2 p13 manual trans, you will probably get some kind of response

if both the engine and the car are OBDII, you dont need a conversion harness......

hmm, maybe the conversion harness is wired wrong. also, is the conversion harness for an obd2a or obd2b? b/c i believe all prelude ecu's are obd2a.

also, as far as which ECU to run, if you want to run an obd2 5th gen ecu, you can have the immobilizer reprogrammed by the honda dealer to work with your ignition. though...i'm not sure how that would work with a 96 4th gen chassis.

personally, i'd double check the convo harness, and think about running a p28 w/ hondata/uberdata/chrome or any # of OBD1 tuning options you have.

ok, does anyone know if it's is difficult to make a auto ecu work with a manual car? I'm got an ecu I'm looking at, but it's auto.

I'll check in with the honda dealership about reprogramming a 5th gen ecu to have no immobilizer.

Also what is needed to make the car obd1? I've heard that the car ran like poo because I need obd1 injectors.

you can't program out the immob. but you can have it reprog'd to work with your ignition so your key works, but iono it's a little more complicated than that.

converting an auto P13 to a manual is very easy. just change 1 jumper setting on the circuitboard.
