Can an auto ecu in a manual cause idle to surge?
Okay, i've got a crx si, and it idles fine.
I swapped a d16y8 distributor on there and an obd0-obd1 conversion harness and plugged in my p28 ecu. I threw code 19 (automatic transmission lockup control valve). I find out this is an auto ecu not a manual one.
The car starts up just fine, but the idle surges up and down. I know its not the iacv or fast idle thing because the car idled just fine 20 minutes ago with the pm6 ecu from the 91 crx si.
Can the auto ecu be screwing up my idle? Is the only way to fix this by doing what this link shows you?

does anybody know if this is an issue? Does this error code do anything to the car, other than annoy the driver?
I had and idle surge problem in my EG. The guy I bought the car from swapped in a JDM B16 but he used an auto ECU. The CEL was on, but it was all auto codes. The car ran fine, but whenever I came to a stop the idle would surge. I bled the coolant a bunch of times but still had the problem. I swapped the fast idle valve, still had the same problem. I swapped a chipped p28 manual ecu and the surge went away. Car idles fine now. Hope this helps.
This does give me some hope man. I have read how to have the ecu converted to manual, and I have 3 codes.
One is for lack of vtec, cuz this is a d16a6 (non vtec), one is for the lack of o2 sensor, and the third is the auto lockup control valve thing, cuz there's no auto tranny.
Please keep posts coming, I have to get this idle surge sorted out before I can chip this p28 with hondata s300 that I bought, and install the innovate wideband.

On this thread a guy said its the auto ecu trying to regulate the stall of the torque converter, is this possible?

I had the same exact problem. I was running an Auto p13, had a bad idling problem(rev from 1000-1500rpm). I switched to a manual p13 and all was gravy. I'm 99% sure that's your problem if you know you have a good FITV and IACV.
yeah i'm sure the iacv and fitv are just fine. Never had a problem on the car before the swap. 20 minutes later, idline problem with the auto ecu.

you actually answered your own question when you posted. if it idled fine when you put in the PM6, then there's your problem.
lol, let us know how it goes.

It makes sense because when you get a CEL, your ECU goes into "Limp" mode. It runs fairly rich in that mode.
Just do the Auto to Manual conversion. If you have any soldering skillz you should be able to do this. It is pretty easy. I did a P28 a few weeks ago, it took about 10 minutes to convert it from auto to manual.
No CEL now, car runs great.

Well i'm sure I can do it, i've soldered before just don't wanna mess anything up ya know?
Anyways, next weekend I'll try this.

Yes, I kept my auto ECU after I swapped it over to a manual. The idle will surge when the engine is cold, it will continue to do so when it has warmed up, but you don't notice it as much.
How much does yours surge? Mine goes up and down only a couple hundred rpm. You threw a code 19, note that you will throw others as well not listed on the main list here on HT. There are some "service" codes that are generated as well. You can find those in the Helms. But you can ignore those, they have to do with the ECU trying to control auto things that don't exist anymore, they have no affect on your vehicle's performance or reliability.

Cool, well I thew 3 codes. One was a vtec one, one was the o2 senor, and one was the auto tranny code.
I'l get it figured out and let ya guys know.
