Default Prelude (5th gen) Coilover install?

I tried searching for a coilover install thread for a 5th gen prelude but had no luck. is it hard to put in tein coilevers (for example), and take out stock suspension? is there a thread about this?

thanks!

Since there is no need for a spring compressor, it is really easy, nuts and bolts.

It took me about a day but it wasnt coilovers it was koni yellow and h&r race springs. The front, you have to unbolt it and then push down and wiggle it out somehow. everyone says the rear is harder but i thought iwas much easier. Getting the shocks out and putting in new ones took like 2 hours total for all 4. the spring compression for the front was a pita and took us FOREVER b/c we didnt know what we were doing; maybe about 4 hours. the rear springs dont really shoot out in fact it moved about .5 mm when i did it w/o using the spring compressor. the rears really dont need compressors in my opinion. Litterally i didnt use and it barely even moved when the top bolt came off. the rear took a long time b/c my friend accidentally striped both koni yellows of their thread when he used an air gun to put the bolts back and didnt realize the threads werent lined up and i had to find a way to fix it. Took me about 3 hours plus an hour to reinstall it b/c of that. If youre around Orange Country in Southern Cali I could come over and help, but i dont think you are. Well either way it's pretty easy. PM me if you have any questions or i can walk you through it.

actually i have a better idea. http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fift...shtml that's what i used to help me. for the front you undo the fork and have someone help and push down on the suspension while you wiggle it out. you'll see what i mean. courtesy of northern texas prelude owners group or something

The link above is a great resource, but keep in mind that it is basically the same as a 4th gen suspension install, so search to find the resources.

I used that link to install my tein type-flexes. It helped a lot. The hardest part was just getting out the stocks.. but even then it wasn't that bad. Took about 4 hours. I did have to buy the arm tool (mentioned in the link). It cost $20 from autozone, but I just returned it after I was done.... considering the condition of the box it came in, I'm assuming a few other people did the same

I'm assuming you're going for the tein's by your post.. if that is the case, and you're getting ones with an adjustable damper, note that even though the specs say it has 16 levels of adjustment, it actually has 25, however you shouldn't set it over 16. When I first installed them, I set it to the hardest setting thinking that it was 16, then went back 3 clicks thinking I set it to 13, when in fact it was set to 22. Luckily I didn't damage anything, but because it was set so tight, the damper would make a squeaking sound when it would compress which led me to check the damper setting. Now I have it under 16 and everything's fine. I dunno if anyone else would make a noobish mistake like that, but just though I'd share the experience just in case

I also made this post after I installed them just to make sure of something. You might wanna check it out: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1571178

One last thing, I talked to a Tein guy and he suggested tightening everything up again after a 100 miles or so.

Hope that helped. Good luck

and just for fun, here's a little comparison shot....

dude i'm in the same boat, i just had it all the way up where I thought was 16, it's not 16? every click = 1 right? **** i need to fool around with these more now. i have the rears at max hard and I think I better turn them down some...

yeah, I would turn those down. And yeah, every click = 1. Also the Tein guy I talked to told me that the lowest setting possible is 0, not 1. So when you goto adjust it, turn it as far counter-clockwise as possible, and that will be 0.

Anyway, how long have you been driving it like that (over 16)? Did it squeak when going over a bump or anything? I'm wondering if it's really that bad to set it over 16. Tein might just be saying that to cover their ***... hmm.. maybe we should start a new thread, cruzin89lude

bout a week, no weird sounds but I'm gonna back it off to be safe. In front i'm like 6 clicks from max, I'm gonna try to figure out this 24 click thing you're talking about tomorrow, I really wish I had more time lately...

read the side of the shock and tell us what model it says ex. SS, FLEX, something like that.

we can give yo a better answer if we know that part.

The instruction manual will tell you how to adjust the height.

Here's a list of the tein products for a 4th gen with the instruction manuals:
http://www.tein.com/ti/h92-bb1.html

And for the 5th gen:
http://www.tein.com/ti/h92.html

The instructions should basically be the same as far as adjusting the height on either model/generation.

Do any of U Autocross? or use the Electronic Damping Force Controller? How do these rate for reliability?

I'm hoping to get out to willow springs in the next month or so, I know a driving instructor there who offered to teach me some stuff.

I dont have the edfc, but my friend does and it's badass, I want it really bad but I dont have the extra $, not yet.
