I have OEM CTR headlights on my 00 Civic and mine are "not" HID compatible but I would like to know because there is a wicked rumor going around that there is a headlight offered with a projector or HID ready???

Bump for the truth

I have never seen any 96-00 type r's with OEM HID. I don't think they were ever offered.

Bump for an answer

iirc HID's were an optional accessory for the EK9. Some headlights were compatible others where not. The ones that are compatible will not have the bulb shroud around the lamp. I'll try to take pictures sometime to show this. The stock halogen bulb emits light from the side of the lamp, whereas the HID lamp usually emits from all points on the glass. Having the shroud on the head lamp assembly throws the light in a blinding pattern, while having it off and having a slightly different reflector in the headlamp (see CTR) is what makes the difference.

On my CTR lights, the halogen bulbs I run now have a distinct cut off on the wall when I park my car. Almost what a projector HID would look like.

It's possible, but I don't know if they were an oem option. I have HID's in my CTR's, but I had to glue an H4 housing from a regular bulb on to my D2S bulb to make it work. Any OEM HID kit like "Hella" and others work but getting good light and projection from them is the tricky part, that's where retrofitting comes in...
