Boosted ITR
I've used the search tool and read the threads which give all sorts of horror stories regarding boosting high CR engines, but I am still interested in boosting or supercharging an ITR.
Can those of you with FI setups on an ITR give me some feedback or advice if I choose to go down this road.
If I choose to stay with NA, am I right to say headers, full exhaust, cam gears, intake, upgraded fuel system, and tuning would be good for 200 wheel horsepower?
My goal is a streetable car to race AutoX. I do not want to be in the stock class, I have had experience in ESP class and did rather well. And yes, I just read the other post regarding some kid and AutoXing.
Thanks for your input.

i dont have a boosted itr myself but i can tell you that alot of people was successful with low boost like 7 psi or so. but if you want more powre you must build your bottom end with low compression pistons and blah blah.

.....many of us have had good success with boosted itr's and stock motors up to about ~12psi and/ or 300+whp.
It's enough to give you more power than you know what to do with on the street, and basically nearly useless for autox. (traction issues)
It is a hell of a lot of fun though!
If you do a search for the following users, you should turn up enough information on boosting an itr: rboosted717, dr pooface, chris F, myself, and pete (damn pete, what did you change your sn to?)
For autox, I would duplicate rmcdaniels setup:

boosted R's are the best..especially when they are turbo..im not a big fan of superchargers but like the squil they make..you can run safely like 7psi on a completly stock motor..make sure you get a sandwich plate by golden eagle or something..
why do you newbies always think sooooo big. Get used the way the car is and if you've already done that, just do some mild stuff for now.
But as it was said NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOWER COMPRESSION TO BOOST MORE. Tuning is key. If 2 cars are side by side everthing the same and they are both turboed and one has higher compression ratio...who wins?
Again not too sure on your level of expertise, but a supercharger is a much safe way too boost (in general) less maintenance. Both have the pros and cons, but if you want to autocross the SC seems to be the better way to go. (I may just have started a big debate)

hahahahha no way. Look into building the head, some stage 2 or 3 cams and an upgraded vavletrain (valve springs and retainers). With the above mentioned upgrades you will have a great car for now...

my car will be done here in the next month..im running a 2mm headgasket, my compression should be around 9.6:1, should be good to do 1bar/14psi and should be a little safer

Running a thicker head gasket affects the quench charicteristics of the head/piston, be careful.
ps boosted R's SUCK

I have to disagree neo, I think there are a few dyno sheets floating around of people "in the ballpark" of 200whp with a stock bottom end. thin gasket, adv timing, nice header, exhaust, cams, tuning... not gonna be easy but I think it can be done with a competent tuner and solid setup.
NA is best y0!

I agree. Not to start a whole new debate or anything but I hit 187whp with stock internals, all the bolts ons incl. a ****-*** header and Hondata. Since installing the Toda piece I'm sure I can hit 190 or above. There are a couple threads of peeps hitting 200whp w/ stock internals and AEM EMS so it is possible.

^I'm with stupid
Boosted R's are money pits. I've put WAY over $10,000 into my car in the last couple of years, and it's value now is probably lower than when it was bone stock.
(Where did the money go? Turbo setup with radiator, oil cooler, intercooler, Hondata, tuning install, $7500 or so. Built motor, $3000? New turbo when I cooked the first one's bearings, $1100, New manifold, downpipe and catback when I cracked the first exhaust manifold, $2000. Fire damage, $800. Plus another $120 in oil dipsticks.)
Do yourself a big favor. Find a nicely built turbo R, buy it, and sell your stock ITR. You'll come out even (or down a couple grand) but save yourself some major headaches. I would highly recommend Pooface's R as a good example of a nicely built track setup.
Oh, also search for posts by AustrianR who runs a wicked boosted R on tracks in Europe. Gotta pay to play, it's a lot of fun, but the downtime is obnoxious.
