Default BIG hub bearing problem!

ok, i have a 97 prelude, and a month or so ago i hear this rubbing sound when i drive. i found out it was the hub bearing. i took off my left front wheel and my rotor would move back and forth. so i took everything apart, and it was definatly the hub bearing because i spun the small metal disc that holds the lug nuts that the rotor sits on. (idk the technical name) but it was all out of whack, and wasnt a smooth motion. i baught a new bearing from my local autoparts store and they pressed it. it was fine for about 10-15 miles till it starting rubbing again. the same autoparts store gave me another new hub bearing and pressed it for free. making sure they checked the actually hub this time i put it on, and it was ok for about 25 miles untill it started rubbing again. my autotech teacher in school does not know whats going on, along with the autoparts store. has any1 experianced this before?

thanks,

-nick

I replaced my rear hub and had to buy a complete hub assembly with a new bearing already in it, I ain't sure of the fronts but I was told you can't just replace a bearing, you have to buy the whole hub assembly for them to last any mileage.

weird. i would think the autoparts store would tell me that i would need the whole assembly. especially after the second time i got a free bearing. im not sure if it makes a difference for the back

In 5th gens the rears are an entire assembly but the front you just press in the bearings.

Have you had a front end alignment/ inspection recently. If it's going it could be an indication something else is broken.

make sure that the hub bearing and axle are seating correctly. you might also try a honda bearing. hondas last for ever for a reason

my car is lowered with out a camber kit, so idk if that contributes to it. i was thinking it does, but 2 bearings messing up after less than 30 miles is a little extreme i think...

sounds like theyre just not pressing it in correctly. if its not pressed in perfectly straight it could damage the casing and cause it to fail. Its hard to hold that thing straight in a press due to its awkward shape.

i would just get ur money back and take it to honda as they would know better what to look for if something else was going on with it too.

Have you had an alignment since the car was lowered?? That would tell you a lot...

hey how did you feel while driving when the hub bearing is grinding. Was anything shaking? I'm having a problem and thinkin its the same as you but not shure. When i accellerates, it shakes and i can feel from the gas pedal. I forgot to mention, i have abs light on also.

You could be right. After i swap some 15' stock donuts with some fat tires 185/65/r15. Maybe my axle couldnt handle those tires becuz of the weight?? My abs code is throwing me a 12 (abs motor pump).

If it's the axle, is it those bearing inside the boot? thanks
