is it good to chip an ecu.
i was searching around and i see alot of chips for sale to raise the rev to 8500 on an ls. will that help by gaining horsepower also? i was also wondering what could i do to gain horsepower but yet have ti sound stock?

u should search more a chipped ECU is meant for cars that is modified and needs tuning if ur ls is stock dont bother, u wont make power up high anyways so raising the rev limit is useless unless
u should try getting aftermarket camshafts

Do not get a generic chip for your car. All it will do is decrease your gas milelage and increase the chance of breaking the engine.
Chipping an ecu and having it tuned on a dyno is fine.
There are cams out there for the ls head. Just gotta search. Crower makes a set for b18a and b18b heads. Be careful when intstalling cams because some need headwork so you don't get valve float/slap. This will also let you raise redline with a more agressive valve spring set-up in the head.
You could always swap the head and do an ls/vtec swap. Then you would have a lot more options on cams...
Internals would be the only way to keep stock sound and have more power.
Ported head/cams/higher compression pistons etc...

thanks for the help. i really appreciate it. i was watching best motoring and i think it was vtec something. they had a type r and the mechanic said it was vtec less and he took out the vtech to make room for bigger cams.

they make cams that dont have the vtec lobes anymore..
vtec is pointless on a track only car

I have to agree with chubz0r on this one
as for a generic chip, all they do is give you a higer redline and richen your fuel mixture, they dont really improve power, and give you the option of revving a stock LS to 8400, things are bound to go wrong up that high, and you wont make power there anyways

Toda makes the VTEC Killer camshafts that eliminate VTEC.

As for the LS head, get a nice port/polish on the head, upgrade the valve-train, and throw in some nice Crower Cams. While you are at it, look into upgrading the bottom end with some higher compression pistons.
