Tire size on 7.5
I have some 17x7.5 wheels. I lifted my car back up and I am putting an H22 in it this weekend. How wide a tire can I go without rubbing? I will have about 1" of clearance after the swap in the front from the top of the tire to the side of the fender. The tires I am currently running are 205/40 17 and I was thinking about running a larger width and height for better traction and more bump absorbsion. Maybe 215/45 17?
Has anyone done this size on a stock ride height integra? How wide can I go on a 7.5" wide rim?
Thanks a lot

It is an Integra, I am going to put an H22a in it this weekend. I figured the extra power I have with 181 to the wheels and some decent torque about 155 wouldn't affect my acceleration too much, so I would like to wrap the wheels with some bigger tires.

What year and package of 'teg? Bigger is not better, better is better. Concentrate on getting better rubber not bigger rubber. If you get bigger tires it will hurt your acceleration. As for wider tires, well, you *may* get slightly better traction in the dry however you will be hurting in the wet. Just get a size that is appropriate for you car and then spend all the money on getting the best model of tire you can afford.
Cheers.

205/40-17 is the proper 17" size for an Integra, if you don't want to rub on the fender wells and if you don't want slower acceleration. If you don't want a tire with a 40 aspect ratio, then don't use 17" wheels.
As neri mentioned, if you want better traction, buy better tires, not wider tires. The Falken Azenis RT-615 comes in 205/40-17 and will give you better performance in that size than a wider tire of another brand/model.

I have good tires now they happen to be the falkens you are talking about, but I am wondering if you guys have seen 45 series or larger on 17" wheels. I want a little more cushion while driving the car everyday, plus the tire doesn't look like they fit the volks properly to me... I have pics but no way to upload them. They seem to be stretched on the rim so the outer lip of the rim is exposed.

Then don't use 17" wheels. Wheels with a smaller diameter will improve the ride quality.
If you have lowered your car or gotten other aftermarket suspension parts, they may also be playing a role.

This is because your wheels are so wide. With narrower wheels (e.g. 16x7) the tires won't look as stretched.
You've made a bunch of mistakes by getting wheels that are too big in diameter (for the ride comfort you want), and are too wide for the proper tire size (for the look you want). Don't compound those mistakes by using the wrong size tires.

I appreciate your opinion and advice... I got a killer deal on the wheels, that is why I got them. I am putting an h22 in this weekend for the CMI event next weekend. If I can't score some slicks for the event I will run my 17"s to see what kind of times I can get. I don't see a problem with trying a larger tire at this point though, I am pretty sure they can clear the fenders and I shouldn't lose a ton of acceleration because of the swap. My tires are still in decent shape, I am going to look into some more info and pricing, I want to eventually run a big brembo kit (though that kit may clear 16's anyway) so I will stick with my mistake for the time being, I'll just run the tire size I have a cross that bridge when I get there.
Thanks for all your help, if you have any suggestions I am definately interested.

225's will rub like a B. Don't put 225's on an Integra, its just not made for it. check the falken RT-615 site for their current sizes. They have a 215, 225, & 245/45 R17. http://www.falkentire.com/615micro.htm near the bottom of the page...

I don't agree with that, the H22A only weighs 150 lbs with tranny more than the stock motor if that. Sure I would love a K series for weight or a bulit b series but I think the h22 will serve me fine on the corners.

no really. my Integ came with 17x7.5 TEs and the guy put 205/40/17 inthe front and 215/40/17 int he back.
just to see the clearance issues I swapped the rears with the fronts and only under hard cornering and hitting a bump or to while turning will the tires rub.

First of all, the sizes he mentioned are all MUCH bigger than yours, as you can see when comparing the outer diameters:
195/55-15 (stock size)
205/40-17 (best size) +0.0 percent
215/40-17 (your size) +1.4 percent
215/45-17 (his size 1) +5.0 percent
225/45-17 (his size 2) +6.5 percent
245/45-17 (his size 3) +9.5 percent
Since yours rub and they're only 1.4 percent bigger, imagine how much rubbing there will be with his sizes!
Second, there's no reason at all to get oversized tires (and especially not on the rear)! By getting the proper tire size, 205/40-17 all around, you can avoid rubbing altogether. You can rotate your tires to even out the wear. And you'll get just as much performance, too. About the only difference is that the wrong size tires are going to be more expensive.
