Default upgraded tires

alright thanks for looking, i am wondering if i can upgrade my tires from 175 to 195 or so. i have 14 inch steelies and currently is running 175/55?/14 sumitomo srixons. i was wondering if the steel rim will be able to fit 195? the thread walls are too thin and cant hold the corners too good. i drive a 92 eg-4dr, i put the 14 on there when i bent a rim on the 13" inch set. anything will help

You can use 185/60-14 on a Civic ('95 or earlier) without any problems. It has about the same outer diameter as the stock tires.

If you want better performance, get a better tire in that size. The Yokohama ES100 is a very good tire and it's available in 185/60-14. The Falken Azenis RT-615 will be available in 185/60-14 starting this summer.

195/60-14 is too big. It will throw off the speedometer and odometer, will make your acceleration slightly slower, and could rub on the wheel wells.

He is correct, for the EG it's too big. I should have noted that the EK runs bigger tires, but as for as width goes, yes 195 will fit on that rim.

Stock 92-95 Civic DX comes with 175/70-13
Stock 96-00 Civic DX comes with 185/65-14

175/70-13 = 22.6" diameter
185/60-14 = 22.7" diameter
185/65-14 = 23.5" diameter
195/60-14 = 23.2" diameter

So you see that your EG won't really like the larger overall diameter of the 195 tire unless you run a 195/55-14. I know that Dunlop SP 8000's come in that size, and they're $80/tire

You can get the Yokohama ES100 in 185/60-14 for $67/tire at the Tire Rack (click here).
