when to replace your catalytic convertor
I got 146k on the odometer, and trying to find a few more MPG. As far as I know it is the origional cat, no funny smells or anything, just wondering if its worth relpacing it.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you might have to replace it when you hear like deep, grinding sounds at the bottom of your car, usually after shifting gears. A guy I know said it's because the parts inside the cat is falling off or some **** like that and those **** can block the exhaust. Just replaced mine recently and it run way smoother afterwards. But be ready to spend a chunk if you have one of those that is part of the exhaust manifold.

If it's clogged you would know. One day the honeycomb will just break appart and you won't get it past 2500rpm. If you wish to save money some muffler places will install you a used one if you pay cash and don't ask for a receipt. Seeing as a cat lasts 7yrs or something getting a 2 year old one for a quarter of the price installed makes sense. That's what I did.
Cheers.
Cheers.
