Default Rewrite an EPROM possible?

looking to get a chipped ECU for my next setup (turbo), probably run Neptune, but not sure if I can just get a Hondata chipped ECU and write over it with Neptune or not? what are the limitations as far as rewriting an EPROM? can you burn over most chips with a different program or do you just need a brand new chip?

also, correct me if Im wrong, P28 has no knock sensor, and P72 has knock sensor?

All depends on the chip that was used. Get the part number off of it.

ie: 27c256 or 29c256 or 27sf512 etc...

Yes, you can reburn most roms thousands of times.

If you ever want to save or re-use that map in the future (or keep it and share it with others), then simply make a copy of it prior to erasing the rom and writing with neptune, crome, uberdate, etc...

p28 has no knock board, whereas p72 does.

take a look over at pgmfi.org in the noob sectionor faq/ wiki

yeah Ive checked out pgmfi, learned a lot but some of that eprom info is like another language. i figured it would depend on what kind of chip is used as to whether you can reburn another program onto it, etc. thanks for the info

27c256 = eprom - uv eraseable

29c256 = EEprom - electronically eraseable

you want the 29c256.

I'd be surprised if a Hondata chip wasn't a 29c256. Shouldn't be an issue. Cheap to pick up a chip if you don't have the kind you need. Figure $5-$7 a chip, I keep 3 to 4 on hand for tuning Hondatas

hondata prefers to use the 29c256 for tuning purposes, cause u will be rewriting multiple times.

onced everything is tuned u will not need it to be rewriteable so a 27c256would be ok or a OTP "one time programmable.

but if a rewriteable chip already has Hondata on it, can you write over that with another program like Neptune? or can you only rewrite to it with the Hondata program?

thanks for the info!

It just stores data. You can rewrite it from any program... think of it like a cd-R or floppy disc. It doesn't care what's on it - data is data.
