i might be stupid but what is the little nut/washer thing? it wont go on my shifter, i dont want to force it, when i took the other one off it came right off.

 

im guessing its just a lockwasher because your new shifter doesnt have a setscrew. just find a nut that fits, screw it onto the shifter first, screw on the **** until its at the right height and orientation, then tighten the nut against the shifter ****

 

put that nut upside down on your shift lever first then screw the **** down
tighten the lock nut when the **** is aligned right

without the lock nut...your shift **** will be crooked looking

 

exactly, since when you screw in the shifter it won't always align so that the gear numbers will read straight ahead, you need to adjust the locknut so the numbers display straight.

btw i got the same shift ****, quality is superb, its awsome

 

it won't go on cause it's threaded in reverse. turn it upside down, and start spinning then set the **** on and then spin the nut and lock that beauty in place!
