High Pitched Squeal/Grinding During Acceleration?
I have a manual 93 honda civic with a JDM d15 engine in it. Lately it has been making this really high pitched squealling noise and I can not figure out what it causing the issue. If you are in the car and have it in neutral and give the car gas you don't hear the squealing. Plus if you sit there and turn the wheel back and forth figuring it may be the power steering pump you hear nothing. The only time you hear the noise is if you are driving the car and are accelerating. For some reason the only time you hear the squealling is while applying the gas pedal and moving. The squeal is a very high pitched noise that almost sounds like two things are rubbing or slipping.
I applied belt dressing to all the belts and they don't seem to be loose at all. What else could be causing this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

um well did you check to see if any pullies are stuck and not moving? is the noise coming from the engine bay or elsewhere...more detail would help.
Yeah i checked all the pullies and they seem to be spinning without any problems. The noise is coming from the engine compartment. Could the power steering pump/ac pump or something have gone bad and be grinding when it speeds up? Do the pullies have ball bearings located in them that could have gone?
i dunno, never had to deal with one. except i saw a mitsubishi that had a pully that didnt spin so thats why i mentioned if all the pulleys spun. is there damage to any belts?
Yes it does not matter what gear you are in. When you get to higher rpm's and speeds above 45mph's you do not hear it. I thought at first it could be a bad Throwout bearing in the trans but the noise does not go away with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor so that is not the issue either.

Sometimes it sounds like it is grinding yes almost like two pieces of metal rubbing which is why i thought of the throwout bearings. Not sure though if there are bearings in any of the pullies or devices that could cause this to happen.

pull the belt and see how hard it is to turn...it may be about to seize.

no broken motor mounts i did verify that. I tried putting the car in neutral and i had someone push on the gas and i watched as the engine torqued and verified all the pullies were spinning. None of the pullies were rubbing against anything.
Anyway of knowing if the bearings are good in the pullies? Or testing the crankshaft pulley?

I'd check the alternator. I remember a high-pitched screeching from mine about a year ago and my friend got in there and I believe loosened the tension on the belt or something. Doing whatever he did took the noise away. I think it was too tight. I could be wrong. I'll ask him and see if he remembers.
Good luck.
Good luck.
If it was a bad wheel bearing wouldn't you hear it all the time when you were in motion? I only hear it when i step on the accelerator. I could be wrong but figured i'd ask.
hey my friend had the same problem, do your lights in the interior flicker and do you lose power intermittantly, then its the alternator. even if the alternator belt seems tight the pulley could be loose from internally damaged parts. check it out, you prolly re used your old alternator and they go out eventually.
actually re reading over your post, i dunno, because his started squealing right once you turn the car on. but when he reved it, it would go away for a sec.
