How do I get security lug nuts off my car? The "key" is stripped.
I bought a car and the previous owner put some security lug nuts on. I have the key but someone stripped the inside...now it is useless. I already tried the vice grip and bar method but that didn't work. I know the simplest way would be to take it to a tire shop and have them remove them but the engine is blown so it is immobile. What sucks is there is a tire shop less than two miles away...so I'd have to pay $50 to have it towed two miles. We tried using the tool specially made to remove the lug nuts but couldn't find the right socket...these lug nuts are a pain to remove. Any suggestions? I have expensive rims on the car and don't want to damage them.
yup, just pound it on and spin it off. I worked at Discount Tire, thats how we did it too. depending on the lock and how hard it was last torqued down, and if theres rust it could take a few times doing that. Best if you can get some air.
