Type R tranys have shorter gears then an LS.
Then don't get the Type R trany.
And make sure if you are buying your trany used, for it to come with paper work from where it came from.

I'm getting close to redline at about 80 MPH. 7500 or so RPM.

so the ls tranny has the longest gears? daily driving i shift into 2nd before 20...feels short as hell...but buying the type r tranny will be cheaper then my tranny getting rebuilt and with lsd...now what should i do? 4500 at 75 or so is damn high...good bye gas

A shorter geared tranny will improve fuel economy. If all you were doing is increasing revvs, yes your fuel economy will suffer, but with a shorter geared tranny it requires less throttle imput to maintain speed. So your RPM's may be increased, but your throttle position is at a lower %, therefore better gas mileage.
FWIW I am at 4900 at 80mph with a '96 spec JDM ITR tranny and ATS 4.929 FD. I averaged ~32mpg cruising at 5500rpms for 4200 miles from Seattle to Omaha and back with a 12.3:1 compression 2.0L B18C.

With my stock tranny I'm at 4300rpm at 80mph in 5th. But I will be getting a jdm final soon so that will change

It depends what you want it for. For longer gears you'd want the usdm, for shorter gears the jdm. You wont find longer gears than an ls trans, if gears shorter than that are going to bother you steer far away from the r tranny.

With my itr jdm tranny with the 4.7 FD with 205/45/16 at 4000rpm i'm at 70mph in 5th. I know the jdm tranny has a GSR 5th gear right? what would a stock itr tranny with 4.7 FD rpm be at 70mph. I changed my vss because my stock one stop working. Now at 4000rpm i do 80mph which is wrong.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but if your car is running at higher RPM's, it's running harder/faster, and therefore using/requiring more fuel. So higher RPM's should mean worse gas mileage, not better.

I was driving today, and i remembed this post... i was in 5th @ 80mph and at 4000rpms
stock USDM ... highways are a tease.. the car just begs for it imho.. when ya slam the throttle the speed builds really fast.... 5th gear vtec is a blast

At 75 mph, my bone stock ITR is at 4000 RPM indicated on the tach, which means that at 80, I'm at 4267 RPM.
However, the ITR gear ratio spreadsheet, which uses the actual gear ratios and doesn't worry about tachometer error or speedometer error, says that it's really around 4375 RPM when you're going 80.

Here are the gear ratios for the LS and the ITR; the higher the number, the shorter the gearing:
LS:
Final Drive Ratio 4.266
1st Gear 3.23
2nd Gear 1.9
3rd Gear 1.269
4th Gear 0.966
5th Gear 0.714
ITR (USM):
Final Drive Ratio 4.4
1st Gear 3.23
2nd Gear 2.105
3rd Gear 1.458
4th Gear 1.107
5th Gear 0.848
As you can see, all the gears in the ITR are shorter than in the LS, except for first, which is the same.
BTW, the overall gearing is the product (by multiplication) of the gear ratio for the gear you're in (first, second, third, etc) and the gear ratio of your final drive (FD).

I believe that statement is false. It is based on an underlying assumption, that throttle effort is less with shorter gearing, and I believe that assumption is also false. YMMV.

when i put my type R tranny in my LS integra at 80mph i was at 4500rpms.
in 5th gear the speedometer and the tach moved together. so the car topped out at 122mph when it hit the factory revlimiter.

the statement about using less gas mileage is definately false...the engine is running harder at higher rpm's which means, its burning up more gas. I really want this tranny because of lsd...lsd is amazing! btw whats a used tranny cost?
